Product Description
Private detective Michael Kelly is hired by his ex- partner to solve an eight-year ancient rape and battery case long gone cold. But when the partner turns up dead, Kelly enlists a team of his savviest colleagues to connect the dots between the recent murder and the cold case it revived: a television reporter whose relationship with Kelly is not strictly professional; his best friend from childhood, a forensic DNA practiced; and an ancient ally from the DA’s office. To close the case, Kelly will have to face the mob, a serial killer, his own double-crossing friends, and the mean streets of the city he likes.Amazon.com Review
Amazon Significant Seven, August 2007: Michael Harvey’s stark debut, The Chicago Way, rips the classic crime novels of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett from their 30s origins and slams them like a brass fist into the teeth of modern-day Chicago. All of the pieces are here: Chandler’s Byzantine plots and tack-sharp dialogue; a smorgasbord of knuckle sandwiches to sate the die-hard Hammett fan; and a hurt dame (platinum blonde, natch), straight out of a James Cain roadside diner. Seemingly destined for noir greatness, The Chicago Way both respects its gnarled roots and catapults hardboiled crime fiction into a new century. –Jon Foro

Michael Harvey’s first novel is incredible! “The Chicago Way” is a suspenseful and exciting crime thriller. He depicts Chicago in a very accurate and magically descriptive way. Being from Chicago, I felt like I was right there during some of the scenes. A fantastic tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t place it down – quick and simple read too. Harvey is truly a talented writer -I can’t wait for his next book!

The book started a bit slow but the Chicago references kept my attention at first. About a third of the way into the book, the tale became appealing and pulled me in. The plot was fantastic, the dialogue was quick paced and the characters were defined enough to delight in the unanticipated ending.
Perhaps Harvey did not entirely renovate the characters to reinforce Michael Kelly’s to some extent recluse tendancies and allow the reader limited access as Michael would allow himself in life?
Overall fantastic book from Harvey. Keen to see more!

Hey this starts out like a Raymond Chandler’s Marlowe novel and carries it off well. Hope to see more from this leader since his debut is well written and keeps moving at a excellent pace, I loved the end scene.Read it for your self, I will not spoil it for you.But do read it, it is a excellent read, better than some additional thiller’s out there.

With his first book, Michael Harvey has written a quick-paced, stylish murder mystery featuring a tough-talking Irish cop turned private investigator that does for the city of Chicago what Elmore Leonard did for Detroit, Raymond Chandler did for Los Angeles and Robert B. Parker does for Boston. Harvey’s main character, while not the most original character in the genre, has the potential to “carry” a successful series a la Harry Bosch, Spenser, Matthew Scudder, etc. If you are in the mood for a book that offers first-rate suspense and is fueled with energy, wit and the stark atmosphere of a major city, The Chicago Way is a book I’d recommend highly. With his “first swing of the bat,” Harvey shows that he has the potential to be a leading “hitter” in the mystery series category.
