What you place in your head, will determine your actions and what comes out of your mouth. This tale starts out with the F*** word. The writer draws you in with a fanatsy title but no one place a warning on this for adults only! I judge if you can’t let your kids read it or see it, its not excellent for you either. We will blame video games on children’s actions, which I agree, but we never say a romance novel caused an adult to commit adultery or murder. These same ways of thinking is why our divorce rate is at 50%, prayer was taken from our schools and family tree values went in the toilet. I watched The Sopranos until i realized my parents n I were cursing more, mad more, and drinking more. Ever since we stopped watching that and anything rated PG-13 and up, we have returned and became more caring adults! Yes, God gave us a Free Will, but its your choice whether you use that to take you to Hell or Heaven. So be careful what you take in though your Eyes and Ears!

I like to read and can never not end a book. I regretably did end this one also and wish I hadn’t wasted my time. There is really no point to this book. The characters are dull and not very well developed. There is no climax, tale line, or resolution. Why would I want to read a book about spouses cheating with their best friends or people drinking their way through their greif. This book was the most terrible waste of my time.

The Castaways: a group of 4 couples who have formed a sort of like octagon. Each couple seems more discontent in their marriage, which is exasperated when one of the couples, Tess and Greg, drown on their 12th anniversary, leaving behind their seven-year-ancient twins Finn and Chloe. The novel is divided into sections focusing on each of the living characters. It jumps between descriptions of each character’s grief and the Castaways’ shared past, most notably the vacations they’ve taken together. Depression, loss, drug and alcohol addiction, and adultery are all present; but, I didn’t find the book that sad (and I’m a crier). I reflect the problem was that I never really got attached to any of the characters, though they were honestly well developed.
Like all of Hilderbrand’s novels, The Castaways is set on Nantucket. The tiny town feel coupled with this wealthy society’s desire for gossip seems to foster the perfect environment for illicit affairs. Of the few books of Hilderbrands I’ve read, it seems to be a recurring theme. Even the covers of all of her novels are similar; they’re all feet on a beach. Overall, I find myself unable to really get into her writing, though every once in awhile she throws in some fantastic descriptions. For example, “He went into their bedroom. It was a terrible neighborhood where his feelings would likely get mugged. He armed himself with a stiff drink.” It was these brief comparative flashes, and a desire to know what happened to Greg and Tess that kept me reading. I reflect I would recommend it as a quick summer beach read.

I finished this on the ferry home from a day on Nantucket.
A fantastic summer read in the caliber of the Blue Bistro which I permanently considered her best. A page turner, did not want it to end. Well developed characters, mystery, romance and so much more.
Fans will not be dissappointed and new fans will hopefully agree.
Thank you Ms Hilderbrand.

Not as excellent as Elin’s others tales. Not much of a tale or very appealing.
