Product Description
A signed and numbered limited edition, slipcased and with a signed print: from the Creation to the death of Joseph, here is the Book of Genesis, revealingly illustrated as never before. This keenly awaited graphic work retells the first book of the Bible in a very much honest way. Peeling away the theological and scholarly interpretations that have regularly obscured its most dramatic tales, R. Crumb—using the actual text word for word—has imagined the Bible as it really was. Now, readers of every persuasion—Crumb fans, comic book lovers, history buffs, and believers—can gain astonishing new insights from these upsetting, visceral, and even juicy tales. Crumb’s The Book of Genesis reintroduces readers to Adam and Eve’s Eden, Noah’s Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah, and the Pharaoh’s Egypt. Using clues from the text, Crumb fleshes out the parade of biblical originals: from the sensitive idealist Joseph to the crafty Jacob, to the still-fetching Sarah, to God Himself. The result, four years in the building, is a tapestry of extraordinary detail, the finest work of Crumb’s legendary career. This special signed and numbered limited edition is slipcased and includes a signed print. .

I have not bought this book, but have read the first chapter online. As a Jew, I am personally affronted by picturing God as an ancient man with the flowing beard and fine clothes. God is noncorporeal and God’s name overwhelming, and the Ten Commandments warns us against any kind of god-imagery, which can lead to idolatry.
Sorry to sound like an ancient fuddy-duddy, since I’ve been a fan of R. Crumb’s comix since 1971, but this is one book I will not buy.

I know Genesis (the Bible version) reasonably well, I know it is pretty much X rated. This seemed to be pitched to young readers. NOT. No rating low enough.

Looks like a Toscano catalogue or an occult comic book
Don’t expect this to be simple to look at.
It’s a strain to overlook it when it’s in the room.
Laughter, whether “alternative” or not, can be many things.
It can deceive you.
It is not hard to notice that this came to be unrestricted in
or near October. Keep the Urtext handy.

In the book of Genesis God first says “let there be light” and only later decides to make the sun and the stars. You can’t have light unless you first have the stars and our sun. This cartoon confirms the nonsense of Creationism the fundamentalists want taught in schools as an alternative view to the origins of man based on sheer belief as a replacement for of empirical evidence.

Ok, I haven’t read the book, but what the heck is it doing in the Science Fiction and Fantasy section of Amazon?
