The tales of Perrault are printed from the ancient English version of the eighteenth century.
The tales from the Cabinet des Fees and from Madame d’Aulnoy are translated, or rather adapted, by Miss Minnie Wright, who has also, by M. Henri Carnoy’s kind permission, rendered “The Bronze Ring” from his Traditions Populaires de l’Asie Mineure (Maisonneuve, Paris, 1889).
The tales from Grimm are translated by Miss May Sellar; another from the German by Miss Sylvia Hunt; the Norse tales are a version by Mrs. Alfred Hunt; “The Terrible Head” is adapted from Apollodorus, Simonides, and Pindar by the Editor; Miss Violet Hunt condensed “Aladdin”; Miss May Kendall did the same for Gulliver’s Travels; “The Fairy Paribanou” is abridged from the ancient English translation of Galland.
Messrs. Chambers have kindly allowed us to reprint “The Red Etin” and “The Black Bull of Norroway” from Mr. Robert Chambers’ Well loved Traditions of Scotland.
“Dick Whittington” is from the chap book edited by Mr. Gomme and Mr. Wheatley for the Villon Society; “Jack the Giant-Killer” is from a chap book, but a excellent version of this ancient favourite is hard to procure.

These books are all fairy tales EDITED by Andrew Lang he has written none of them which is exactly what I had expected when I got it. If you get this because you want an Andrew Lang book, well that’s just silly. It says on the front take in that he edited them.

The Blue Fairy book was a fantastic book. I have read most of these fairy tales before, but Andrew Lang puts these tales in a new perspective. Most kids, are used to Disney Princesses and how all of them have pleased endings, but in the Blue Fairy book there is a jappy ever after, but with a twist. My faveorite was East of the Sun and West of the Moon. It was about a poor man who has three daughters. They were all very pretty, but the youngest was the prettiest. a white bear came and questioned the poor man fot the youngest and he will become very rich. The poor man excepted. the youngest daughter rode on the back of the white bear’s back and came to castle. the white bear gave her a silver bell that if she rang it everything she wanted will appear. After that, he left. she survived for a few weeks, but she ongoing getting lonley. When the white bear came, the youngest teacher questioned to visit her family tree. The white bear said yes, but to not listen to anything her mother says. The youngest daughter went to her family tree. Her mother took her aside and questioned if anything is going incorrect. for awhile she said nothing, but then she told her mother about a weird noise she heard. Her mother told her to go to where she heard the noise, take a candle and see what is there. She took her mother aadvice and when she did it she establish a prince. The candle wax fell on her shirt. The youngest daughter looked suprised. She saw a white fuzzy cloth on the floor. he said that now she saw him in his real self, he now has to marry a troll. He left in a vanish, but adage “I am going east of the sun and west of the moon.” She the north wind to go to the place the prince had said. She establish a huge mountain. she climbed it. She saw the troll and questioned her to see the prince for one night for a special gift for their wedding. The troll excepted, but gave the prince a sleeping drinmk. the youngest daughter went up to the prince’s bedroom. She couldn’t wake him up. She was yelling and crying. Morning came and the troll kicked her out. She offered another gift. The troll excepted. The same thing happened that night, but on the third night, a servant heard the daughter crying. The prince pretented to drink the sleeping drink. When the daughter came they had a very nice night together. In the day the prince said that the lady who can get the stain off the the wax from the candle stick. The troll tried to get the stain out, but it just got larger. Additional trolls tried too, but the stain got larger. The youngest daughter tried and the stain came off. The prince and the youngest daughter got married and lived happily ever after.

This book is a mass market rip off not only does it have over one hundred extra pages because of the large font but there is no table of contents its just dreadful.

Am starting to collect for sharing with my grandchildren. I loved these tales and hope they will, too.

I like this book, as it is the original tales, and not a cleaned up version. They are teaching tales, and don’t need to “make soft” the inexactness of some lessons.
