…as she penned this novel. Obnoxiously obsessed about food and drink, this book became incredibly tedious after only a few chapters. References to fine cuisine is acceptable, but not as a main character in the novel. Became nauseating afer a while.

This is my second Elin book. First book was The Castaways. I loved The Blue Bistro and could not place it down. The food/restaurant references were perfect for a foodie like me.
My only issue with the book is the ending, it left me a small flat… wanting more.

There is nothing I like better than reading on the beach. . . except perhaps eating at a excellent restaurant with a view of the water.
This, therefore, was the perfect beach read for me: summer, food and drama all in one! Despite the covers of these (Hilderbrand’s) books, which imply visually that the books are mindless, illiterate romances, they are not.
The Blue Bistro qualifies as a fantastic beach-read because it’s character-driven and because summer and Nantucket are nearly characters in themselves, but it isn’t trash. Hilderbrand takes a complex storyline and slips it in under your ribs as you read, like a knife that reaches your heart, until by the end of the book, you realize you’ve just read a very nicely constructed novel. Painlessly.
Hilderbrand has a knack for writing an engaging tale. Her prose is permanently well-constructed, her characters well-drawn and her dialogue spot-on. She may not solve the world’s problems, but she does solve her characters’ problems.
So, absolutely, place this into your bag and sit with it on the end of the dock.
After all, who wants to read War and Peace while wearing a bathing suit and sipping iced tea?

The Blue Bistro is a fine dining restaurant located on the beach of Nantucket. This is a complex and emotional tale about the owners, Thatcher Smith and Fiona Kemp and a girl, Adrienne, running from a drug addicted ex boyfriend who stole her money. Thatcher, a conflicted character, likes Fiona deeply, as a friend, but his like runs so deep that this unique friendship has interfered with his past like interests. Fiona suffers, since childhood, from Cystic Fibrosis. She is on the list for a lung transplant. Adrienne has been effective all over the world in the hotel industry. Adrienne is hired by Thatcher to run the front of the restaurant. Like grows between Adrienne and Thatcher. Every night when the Blue Bistro closes Thatcher and his partner chef Fiona share dinner in the kitchen where she hides from society, which leaves Adrienne confused until she finds out the truth about her seeming rival and why the Blue Bistro will close after this summer. Exciting, appealing read!

The character development was so levelheaded, and the descriptions of the food and restaurant, and Nantucket so enjoyable and plain, it would make a fantastic TV series. This was a fantastic read. I’m going to try another by the leader.
