Fun book at a fantastic fee! The “bugs” you make are pretty fun cause the lights/eyes flash and blink when you blow on the antennas or if you go them around. Fantastic fun project and gift!

I never write these kinds of reviews, but I built a couple of blinky bugs at a workshop place on by the auther at the Maker Faire in San Francisco, and they are incredible. They’re really fun to make because they are a simple concept but you can be creative with them and they’re really cool when they are done. The small antennas flap with light wind currents or if you go the bug at all and this makes the LED eyes flash on and off. People who see the blinky bugs I’ve made reflect they’re so cool.
I’ve been waiting for this book to come out. Its wonderful. It has incredible artwork in a comic book style with simple to follow instructions for building blinky bugs and all the parts you need to make a bunch of bugs. It encourages creativity and experimentation. It also includes some basic explainations of how the simple LED and battery circuit works. Its the perfect project for kids (maybe 6 years ancient and up–I guess a 6 year ancient would require adult help but he/she would reflect it was so cool. Maybe a 10 year ancient could do it alone.) and adults who like crafting things (seriously this is one of persons “kids” things that adults really like). The finished bugs or the book/kit itself are fantastic presents for your friends or whatever.
A lot of care obviously went into making this book and kit. I highly recommend it.

Bought this to do as a project with my 5-yr ancient son, thinking that it should be within my technical abilities, and thankfully it was
The packaging is fantastic, everything contained neatly in a hardcover book with resealable parts storage. The instructions are very clear yet fun, thanks to the comics style.
Putting everything together was simple and fun. Reading through the book, assembling two bugs, and explaining basic electricity concepts took about an hour, with a lot of simpler steps that even a 5-yr-ancient can help with. I reflect a 10-yr-ancient could easily do it by himself/herself.
My son was tickled with the result, see attached customer pic. He made the black with red eyes scary vampire one, and I made the not-scary-at-all orange looser who rumor has it that is gonna get its butt kicked by the vampire one, or so he says…

I selected up Blinkybugs from the Maker Faire in 2009 – they were super fun to assemble – perfect for a project with kids. It’s fantastic they are now available in a completely self-contained format with cool cartoon instructions and a bunch of extra decorations and bling to choose from during assembly.
