From the 86 year ancient curse to the bloody sock and 2 WS championships… as a card carrying member of Red Sox nation, I was keen to read about Curt Schilling’s family tree. It is appealing to know what goes on in a baseball family tree off the meadow. I learned alot about Aspergers while reading this book, something I didn’t know anything about. I also heard personal tales of what was going on at home while myself the millions of others were watching Curt on the mound. WOW… just incredible.

I simply can not say enough fantastic things about this book!! I factually could NOT place it down and have not been able to quit talking about it since! As a married woman in my thirties with no children I wasn’t exactly sure what I would get from this book but I was blown away by the open and honest way that Shonda tells their tale! I laughed, I cried and I came away with a feeling of hope – because I don’t know how you could read this book and not feel inspired to make a difference. I have already recommended the book to several people whose lives have been touched by any form of autism…but it’s so much more than that…I reflect we could all use a reminder lesson in humanity and compassion from Grant because he truly is the best kind of different and maybe it’s something we should all strive for!!

As the mother of a son with AS, I was interested in reading Mrs. Schilling’s book. It was reassuring to me that her daily struggles with her son and herself are the same ones that I face. She has truly captured the emotional roller coaster that having a child with an ASD can cause. I reflect it took fantastic courage for her to write her family tree’s tale, and I’m glad that she chose to share it with us. Many of us with kids on the spectrum could’ve written a similar tale, but Mrs. Schilling’s fame will make this book more mainstream and will hopefully educate a broader audience about Asperger’s. I am hoping that members of my family tree read it and have a better appreciation and understanding of all the things I have to cope with on a daily basis. Although I know I am not alone as a parent of a child with Asperger’s, it can regularly feel that way and building a tie with a name who is also building the journey is so helpful even if it is only through a book. I would recommend this to anyone who has a family tree member or freind with Asperger’s of high-functioning Autism.

Shonda’s book is sincere and real. It is a tale of family tree might … sticking together, getting through tough times, learning, growing, and loving. It is also an vital book because, even if you don’t have a child on the autism spectrum, there is a excellent chance that you have friends, co-workers, relatives, or classmates who do. Excellent job Shonda and thank you!
