I can’t see the appeal of this book. I felt like it was written for people who despise to read but like dogs and race car driving. Terrible Very very terrible!

This book was recommended to me by a friend, she knows I like cars. I’m 100 pages into it and I don’t reflect I’ll end it, it is so depressing. It is not a book on car racing, it a book about death and cancer

I bought this book at Starbucks with no clue from the take in reviews and tale synopsis that the tale would be so depressing. This tale is not about a dog–it’s about a man (the leader) who speaks through a dog to tell a very depressing tale about the highly anticipated death of a woman and the custody fight over her child. The side tale regarding the spouse/father’s car racing provides an appealing perspective, but it does not overcome the main tale. The reader can see the wife’s brain cancer coming long before the wife is finally forced to see a doctor. Considering how long the tale characters wait before seeing a doctor, despite the symptoms of extremely painful headaches accompanied by dizziness and vomiting, it’s no marvel the wife/mother did not have a chance of extant. Regarding the child, who in their right mind would allow a tiny child to live in her grandparents’ household that is set up to care for the child’s dying mother, when the loving, healthy spouse/father who lives near by and visits his dying wife on a regular basis would prefer that his child stay with him. What environment would be in excellent health for the child!?! In addition, the dog man narrator is prone to gratuitous sexual observations that are just yucky. NOT A BOOK FOR DOG LOVERS! NOT A BOOK FOR CHILDREN OR YOUNG ADULTS! Publicity for this book should have been clearer!

I much to my surprise despised this book. I thought it was a waste of time. I adore animals, particularly dogs and for me to dislike a book with a dog in it is most unusual.

I establish the writing and tale stagnant. An ancient lab wishes to be allowed to die so he can be reincarnated as a human. The book takes us thru his life with his owner. They live in an apt. so the dog watches TV all day. Very dull.
I am absolutely STUNNED at the 4 1/2 star rating. The guy can’t write at all.
I quit before the half mark. Dull. Mono.
