Product Description
Presenting twelve leap forwards practices for bringing creativity into all human endeavors, The Art of Possibility is the dynamic product of an extraordinary partnership. The Art of Possibility combines Benjamin Zander’s experience as conductor of the Boston Philharmonic and his talent as a teacher and communicator with psychotherapist Rosamund Stone Zander’s genius for crafty innovative paradigms for personal and professional fulfillment.
The authors’ harmoniously interwoven perspectives provide a deep sense of the powerful role that the notion of possibility can play in every aspect of life. Through uplifting tales, parables, and personal anecdotes, the Zanders invite us to become passionate communicators, leaders, and performers whose lives radiate possibility into the world. The lure of this book’s promise starts with the assumption in its title. Possibility–that huge, all-encompassing, wide-open-door concept–is an art? Well, who doesn’t want to be a skilled artist, whether in the director’s chair, the boardroom, on the factory floor, or even just in dealing with life’s everyday situations? Apt an artist, but, requires discipline, and what the authors of The Art of Possibility offer is a set of practices designed to “initiate a new approach to current conditions, based on uncommon assumptions about the scenery of the world.”
If that sounds a small too airy-fairy for you, don’t be place off; this is no mere self-improvement book, with a wimpy mandate to transform its readers into “nicer” people. As a replacement for, it’s a collection of illustrations and advice that suggests a way to change your entire outlook on life and, in the process, open up a new realm of possibility. Consider, for example, the practice of “Giving an A,” whether to yourself or to others. Not proposed as a way to measure a name’s performance against standards, this practice as a replacement for recognizes that “the player who looks least engaged may be the most committed member of the group,” and speaks to their passion rather than their cynicism. It makes possibility in an interaction and does away with power disparities to unite a team in its efforts. Or consider “Being the Board,” where as a replacement for of defining yourself as a playing piece, or even as the strategist, you see yourself as the framework for the entire game. In this scenario, assigning blame or gaining control becomes futile, while seeking to become an instrument for effective partnerships becomes possible.
Packed with such examples of personal and professional interactions, the book presents complex thoughts on perception and recognition in a readable, useable style. The authors’ combined, eclectic experience in composition and painting (as well as family tree therapy and executive workshops) infuses their examples with vibrant color and sound. The weight to corporate situations and relationships is well developed, and they don’t rely on dry case studies to do it. Indeed, this book assumes the emotional intelligence and desire to engage of its reader, promising access to the rewards of that door-opening notion–possibility–in return. –S. Ketchum

The leader must have had either est Training or Landmark training since many of the concepts, wording, and the way is open is based on this training.
They need to acknowledge where they got this information it is not an original work.

I can only imagine spending time with this couple. Perhaps, say, meeting them at a dinner party. The conversation goes something like this:
Rosamund: “Tell me about yourself.”
Guest: “Well, I was born in Boston.”
Rosamund: “Now, place that in the context of ME.”
Guest: “Well, you live in the Boston area.”
Rosamund: “That’s right. I’ve got my act together. In fact, I’ve got my act together more than anyone else in Boston.”
Benjamin: “Well, let’s talk about me in Boston. I conduct kids orchestras.”
Rosamund: “That’s right, that allows us to pronounce all-purpose platitudes about life, management, like, and self esteem.”
Benjamin: “You know, I wasn’t permanently this perfect.”
Rosamund: “Benjamim, shut up. I questioned our guest to place his comments in the context of ME.”
This was one of the most useless and unbearable books I’ve ever read. I kept reading, to the bitter end, just to see if it stayed as terrible as it ongoing. It did.
What a waste of paper and ink.

Ugh. How much of this Werner Erhard inspired mud will we have to suffer before the whole disgusting mess either dissipates or compacts down into an easily disposed of loaf? Familiar to any cult-watcher, the buzz words spill freely here. They are words and concepts that can mean anything to anyone. Fuzzy, new-age pap which the authors unashamedly admit come from the culty, self-improvement seminar called Landmark Education which used to be Erhard’s “est.”
Sad to say, many Landmark devotees are encouraged by their participation to “make” endless testimonials reflective of their own egos, swelled to megalomaniacal proportions by various psychological tricks and techniques, and the Landmark Corporation by proxy. “Spreading the word” is part and bundle of the whole trip. Keep a shovel handy.

This book is fantastic for anyone on a self-discouvery journey. One should look for books like this and people like Zander for help through life. Reading a book can’t do any harm, and reading this one has done excellent for so many people. I fervently suggest it.
