Product Description
Lillian Haswell, brilliant daughter of the local apothecary, yearns for more adventure and experience than life in her father’s shop and their tiny village provides. She also longs to know the truth behind her mother’s disappearance, which villagers whisper about but her father refuses to chat about. Opportunity comes when a distant aunt offers to educate her as a lady in London. Exposed to fashionable society and romance–as well as clues about her mother–Lilly is torn when she is summoned back to her ailing father’s bedside. Women are forbidden to work as apothecaries, so to save the family tree legacy, Lilly will have to make it appear as if her father is still building all the diagnoses and decisions. But the suspicious eyes of a scholarly physician and a competing apothecary are upon her. As they vie for village prominence, three men also vie for Lilly’s heart.

This book was painful to get through. The tale line was less than appealing and Im suprised it recieved so many fantastic reviews. I am a sucker for past novels, but I had to stop half way through and skip to the end to see who she finished up wth. I despised this book because it was a waste of my time.

This book was incredibly long and dull. I was shocked how many positive reviews it received. The characters are mostly two dimensional and the storyline jumped a lot. The main character has too many suitors and her lack of emotion towards any of them was reasonably annoying. I was 80% through the book and still had no thought who she was going to end up with. Also, the main character was very inconsistent. One moment she is going against societal norms and the next moment she’s listening to men bash her lacking even blinking or standing up for herself. The book is rather gloomy and depressing. I was absolutely bored in the middle of the book and ongoing skimming it until the end. I wouldn’t recommend anyone really read this book.

Reasonably dull and slow moving. The writing is stilted — the leader would rather tell than show us. I will avoid future books by this leader.

cute and fun book to read with some appealing facts. straddles the fine line between trashy books and literature. simple read
