I do not regularly read fiction, especially new fiction, but how regularly does one share a name with the title character of a new novel?
As I got into the first few chapters I was amazed at the incredible and considerable traits I shared with Stennett’s character of the same name.
Same age, similar background, shared names of friends, similar philosophical views, same disdain for getting loose change as well as the same fondness for paying with exact change.
I must also admit that I have even entertained the thought of forming my own religious affiliation for lack of one that meets my needs.
The book is an entertaining read, to be sure. Stennett has place together a plausible tale that flows well but sometimes gets campy. I’ll submit “Cowboy Jack” and “The Greasy Spork” as examples. I’ve lived in Southern Oklahoma, so I know these names are not too far off the mark for people or places in that part of the country, but I still had a hard time getting around them.
The pace of events in the book felt a bit rushed and some parts skipped yet to be in huge leaps, but I can know the leader’s need to shove the tale yet to be when he did. Not doing so may have bogged the tale down building for a much heftier and less enjoyable text.
Overall the book is decent. There is a target audience out there that does not include folks like me who read history nearly exclusively. But, if religious fiction is your bag, I would recommend you pick up The Nearly Right Tale of Ryan Fisher.

Was looking for some fun reading. Didn’t realize this was a Christian book–my error. Thought from the previous reviews that it would be a fun read with excellent humor and satire. Maybe for a Christian fanatic but not for me. The first Chapter was not much more than a weak sermon on the need for Christianity and conversion. Oh, I saw some satire with all the hugging for the new conversions and some of the problems of a church–all the complaining; but bottom, it was not really amusing and too much of what you might want to make your life full. I do not know all the premises. For example I reflect looking at Victoria’s Secrets web sites might invigorate a marriage not be a problem. But the whole thing was weakly written and its folksy tone a poor carpet for its attempts at humor and satire. Sorry. You get what you paid for. In this case, I could not end the book and felt I wasted my time with Christian laced drivel. Do not reflect it was very excellent literature.

Could’ve had a better deve/oped tale line. Was much too predictable. Was hoping for more so I kept reading. Should’ve known better. Don’t know all the 4+ ratings. Maybe I just didn’t get it.

I had to MAKE myself end this book. The leader tries way too hard to be cute and contemporary and to show the reader how “hip” he is. The “light and fluffy” (sarcastic?) tone the leader attempts is nearly physically nauseous. The book’s plot is so thin as to be transparent. As a Christian, I expected more. Further, I feel that if a non-Christian tries to suffer through even the first chapter of this book, he or she will never attempt Christian literature again.
This book was a waste of my money. I couldn’t wait to end it and delete it from my Kindle!

This book is a must read for modern Christians. Very authentic views of a name who wants to be a Christian. The church shows what it really takes to be Christian as opposed to what the main character thinks he needs. At the end, all it takes is the right meaning of a personal savior we find in Jesus! Very humorous book. We all need laughter these days. God shows us what it is really like to laugh your pants off!
