Concerned about his long-term, post-career health, Tony chose to change his diet. Just finished The All Pro Diet, and I’m so glad I selected this up. Whether you’re an athlete, wannabe athlete, or just looking to get fit and need the motivation and advice to get ongoing–this book has it all! It’s a refreshing look at fueling the body and mind for optimal performance, and I’m looking forwards to putting these principles to work in my own life.

The foods in the book make you feel very satisfied and is something that you should have a pretty simple time sticking to. It is mostly plant based with the emphasis on getting food from clean sources. You can eat just about anything in moderation as long it is not processed. The diet is mostly affordable, but some of the protein supplements recommended in this book are very expensive, so a name pinching pennies may struggle with that aspect. Additional than that, it outlines some basic principles in which you can renovate a very healthy diet by following them. I rated it four stars because he really leaves you hanging a bit on the exercise part. He does a pretty excellent job explaining how to do the core exercises, but does acknowledge that the workout is not for everyone, and is not very point as to how regularly you should do these exercises, and how to determine how much weight to use, so I was a small lost on that. The exercises are very useful though, you will sweat a lot, and are effective in helping you erect muscle. The final section on motivation basically reinforces things you probably have already heard, but nevertheless makes some excellent points.

Components of the book:
- 85% nutrition…This part of the book is VERY comprehensive from food choices, meal plans, timing and much, much more. And the information isn’t overwhelming. It’s open in a simple, step-by-step manner. It doesn’t sugar-coat the changes most people need to make (mainly the types and quantities of food eaten)…it requires a life-changing experience. But, the plot is clear on how you need to get there.
Personally, after building changes to my diet that were recommended in the book, I felt a difference. Long, morning endurance sessions didn’t seem to stay with me all day. Recovery came much quicker. I judge it is the clean foods that Tony recommends.
- 10% workout…While this may be the core of Tony’s workout, I’m not convinced it covers all facets like the nutrition section. Basic principles are communicated that I adhere to (seeing how I maintain a more sports-related lifestyle vs. straight cardio), but more depth on workout scheduling, timing, rotation, etc. would have been useful.
- 5% worthless motivational stuff…I may have agreed the book 5 stars had this part been edited out before printing. It wasn’t useful or insightful.

The layout of this book is absolutely addicting. Filled with inspirational quotes, sample meal plans, simple-to-know nutrition explanations (i.e.protein powders) and an array of nutrition advice from grocery shopping to trying new foods. The collaboration between a pro-athlete giving his life a makeover and the knowledge of a Registered Dietitian, this book is perfect for a name who is trying to gain weight the right way, and also just right for persons who are trying to eat in excellent health and lose some weight. My personal favorites about this book are the sample meal plans and the smoothie recipes – both I have incorporated into my lifestyle today. Thank you Tony & Mitzi for writing such an enriching, motivating and thorough book on health and nutrition! And also for including your personal experiences!
