Sherman Alexie tells the tale of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Determined to take his future into his own hands, Junior leaves his troubled school on the rez to attend an all-white farm town high school where the only additional Indian is the school mascot. Heartbreaking, amusing, and perfectly written, The Absolutely Right Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the leader’s own experiences, coupled with poignant drawings that reflect the character’s art, chronicles the contemporary adolescence of one Native American boy as he attempts to break away from the life he thought he was destined to live.
The Absolutely Right Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Alexie’s YA debut, unrestricted in hardcover to instant success, recieving seven starred reviews, arresting copious bestseller lists, and winning the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature.

One of the reviewers said this book didn’t drop any F-bombs. WRONG! Page 64 does! This book is very inappropriate for middle schoolers because the entire book is permeated with profanities.

The book arrived in VERY poor condition. There was pen inscription throughout the entire book, writting in the margins, worst book I ever got on Amazon.

Don’t read this book. If you have ongoing it place it down. This book is filled with cheap humor and terrible plots. It’s the equivalent of Junie B. Jones. After trying to make a better person of himself, Junior is sucked right back into the Rez. When a non-sports book has a three page climax about a silly basketball game, you know the book is terrible. After killing of three barely known characters in the span of thirty pages I nearly threw the book down in disgust. Do yourself a favor, don’t read this book. Rom TK 7/8

The reviews are in and the American public chooses poorly. Despite the fact this book is recently published and Americans these days are not known for reading quality, to choose to right anything but a negative review on “The Absolutely Right Diary of a Part-Time Indian” shows an ineptitude for thinking.
My 13 year ancient son started reading this book because it was on the summer reading list for his school (warning: a school selected review board chose this). He came to me and said, “this is not a excellent book”. So, first, I went and read additional books on the list and establish two descent ones (“Gymcandy” and “Unwind”) that although they deal with adult themes they were not offensive and they challenged the reader to reflect. Then I read Alexie’s book.
The book is written from the view of a 14 year ancient. And although it is a creative way to write, the view point is still the same ancient line of: grave, oppressed Indians building a change and struggling to make it. Does it challenge anyone to read how teenagers behave? Does it challenge anyone to know the baseness of man? Will it inspire anyone to help a name who chooses poorly?
With so many books to choose to read from on the summer reading lists I hope this review helps another family tree choose to read the books before trusting that because they are on a selected list they are excellent.

So, how long would it take to walk 22 miles home from school, which Arnold supposedly does on occasion? The BBC reported in 2004 that a man beat a horse in a 22 mile race taking two hours, five minutes and 19 seconds to perfect the 22 mile course, beating the fastest horse by two minutes and 17 seconds. And he wasn’t walking. I’m sure Arnold’s parents didn’t wait up.
