Product Description
She’s accidentally ruined a dozen cars. She’s a target for every psycho and criminal this side of the Jersey Turnpike. He mother’s convinced she’ll end up dead…or worse, lacking a man. She’s Stephanie Plum and she kicks butt for a living (well, she thought it would sound excellent to place it that way…)
It starts as an innocent trip to the deli-mart, on a quest for nachos. But Stephanie Plum and her partner, Lula, are clearly in the incorrect place at the incorrect time. A robbery leads to an explosion, which leads to the destruction of yet another car. It would be just another day in the life of Stephanie Plum…except that she becomes the target of a gang. And the target of an even scarier, more treacherous force that comes to Trenton. With super gift hunter Ranger out of town (and Stephanie on the outs with vice cop Morelli), she finds herself alone, with a choice to make: how to protect herself and where to hide while on the hunt for a killer known as the Junkman. There’s only one safe place, and it has Ranger’s name all over it-if she can find it. And if the Junkman doesn’t find her first. With Lula riding shotgun and Grandma Mazur on the loose, Stephanie Plum is racing against the clock in her most suspenseful novel yet. Ten Huge Ones is page-turning entertainment and Janet Evanovich is the best there is.

Stephanie Plum, girl gift hunter, the terror of Trenton, the bane of her boyfriend Joe Morelli’s being, and the delight of her crazy grandma’s heart, is in the incorrect place at the incorrect time–as usual. Just happening to be indulging her nachos jones at a local deli when it’s robbed by the notorious Red Devils, Plum is the eye witness who could place the gang leader, known as the Junkman, behind bars… if he just lets her live long enough. Looking for a place to hide out from the killer until the cops catch up with him, Stephanie sneaks into her fellow gift hunter Ranger’s apartment lacking telling Morelli, who’s not overly fond of him. All the usual suspects in this long-running series are along for a wilder than ever ride, including Lula the gun-toting ex-hooker, Grandma Mazur, Stephanie’s pregnant sister Valerie and her fiancĂ©, as well as a host of minor characters who bring Trenton’s seedier environs to life. Ten Huge Ones is another madcap caper by a writer whose fans will doubtless catapult this simple beach read to the top of the bestseller list. –Jane Adams

The rating of three from the person from Columbus, Ohio should not be counted considering the fact she/he doesn’t know enough to capitalize the city and state. This was one of J. E.’s best. She just gets better. I give it an eleven on a scale of one to ten. Opps; I’m only allowed five. Read it and laugh.

When Lula and Stephanie see the face of a masked gang member, a hit is place out on her. Joe wants her to be a housewife(what is he on?) and yet another car is ruined. Stephanie moves out of Joe’s, but since Valerie is living in her apartment, she has no place to go. Thank goodness for the GPS and apartment key in the truck Ranger loaned her. He is away for a couple of weeks, so she should be safe in the Bat Cave, or so she thinks.
This is a quick moving tale with bizarre and amusing characters. This one is fun but doesn’t develope the relationships between the characters much. I agree with Ranger, Stephanie is very entertaining.

Bond Enforcement Agent Stephanie Plum and her sometimes partner Lula are outside the deli-mart trying to choose what to eat when a man wearing a red devil mask runs out of the store. He has a Molotov cocktail that he throws into the store he just robbed but the manager catches it and throws it back bouncing it off the culprit’s head into Stephanie’s car. The car catches fire and the criminal takes off his mask and Stephanie realizes she can identify him.
Her live in lover Joe Morelli tells her he is linked with the street gang Comstack Street Slayer. Lacking thinking of the consequences, Stephanie and Lula go into Slayer territory to look for the Red Devil robber when gang members, some of which jump on her car, surround them. She drives away, throwing the gang members into the street and the next thing she knows the Slayers have imported the hitman Junkman to take her and a few additional people out. Stephanie comes up with an deliciously felonious plot to find out who is on the Junkman’s hit list and why but she is still in danger with Joe and Ranger, the sexy gift hunter who is Joe’s rival doing their best to protect a woman who needs her freedom.
This is obviously the tenth Stephanie Plum novel and unbelievably it is one of the best in the series. It is fresh, amusing, upbeat, and populated with the odd characters readers have come to like. Stephanie’s relationship with Ranger is certainly heating up. It is delightful to watch the heroine doing her job while hiding out from the gang members. Janet Evanovich score again with an undeniably fantastic crime novel. This leader has so much talent it is no marvel she is permanently on the bestseller lists.

Evanovichs series of light comedic reading is in fact full of thinly disguised damaging racist stereotypes. Earns zero out of five stars.
I cannot fathom why any intelligent individual enjoys Janet Evanovich’s work. Based on Janet’s earlier novels and from reading “Ten Huge Ones”, I have an ill feeling about her fan base/ demographics – and its not pretty.
The leader’s heroine Stephanie Plum is a adult-child: naive, inept, and emotionally immature. Also, she’s a pathetic arrogant liar and unrepentant hypocrite. No doubt her life is a mess; she cannot hold a job nor (most importantly) choose which one of two rather disturbing romantic interests she’d prefer to settle with. Morelli, one questionable interest, explored her, er.. affections at 6, whereas, Ranger a sociopathic outcast regularly communicates his affection with one word “Babe”. How unromantic. Further, the reader learns indecisive Steph would much rather string along and/or bed both – if thats ok with you, dear reader. And if that is not silly, there are too many racial stereotypes. So many ethnic misfits. So much social misinformation and thinly disguished African-american and ethnic minority-bashing ought to designate the Stephanie Plum series as “HATE” literature. Uncomfortable emphasis on fugitives *skin color* their crime and corresponding punishment, if at times wishful thinking. Throughout the book, all poor and/or effective-class African-americans are grouped together as, wait for it – dark, hideous, dispicable, bone idle, repeat offenders getting exactly what they deserve. Even effective-poor persons are habitually in conflict either with their dubious “morals” or the law. Even the excellent turn to crime eventually, lacking explanation. Only in America a “literary artist” repeatedly malign an entire ethnic community and become a national bestselling leader. In my opinion,Evanovich continues to unjustly enrich her self with the spreading of malicious and treacherous information against minorites.
Example: Why Stephanie’s African-american ex-hooker sidekick Lula, a “full bodied black woman who favors animal print spandex enhanced with sequins”, never considers to change her attire throughout the series is baffling. Evanovichs work is predictable of most hollywood stereotypes concerning African-american women; either unfashionable stout ho’s, poverty profiteers, repeatedly pregnant, thieving criminals, poor public housing residents, and victims.
Further, why is the only Afican-american supporting character a poor ex-ho? Lula, we learn rather early on, is reasonably proud to be been a prostitute. Nevertheless, she remains stout and hideous, sassy, dumb, an all around bone idle non-worker who never completes her filing assignments. In fact, when she files something its to place her bosses lunch, a sub sandwich under “S”. She’s so ignorant, a functionally illiterate grammar school failure with a penchant for rap composition and indiscriminately jumping-the-bones. Not amusing. And, the ho, I mean ex-ho (she does have a psuedo law enforcement job) conveniently has scores of shady character “friends” on speed dial available to offer information on just about anything useful to the bond mistress. Yet, poor Lula is uncomfortable with all law-enforcement types and avoids police stations like the plague. Something to do with ex-ho stress syndrome, I suppose.
Throughout the book, we find bone idle Lula conveniently dispatched whenever: 1)the lovely Stephanie has a food craving, 2)Steph or Connie (the mob chick)suffers attack of moral conscience, ie. they cannot possibly strike Ward, Stephs dubiously apprehended fugitive. Its just contrary to their excellent moral character and religious values, 3) leader inflicts heavy dose of verbal bashing or mocks minorities, and 4) Steph feels vulnerable and needs emotional uplifting and hand holding, 5)leader inserts comic relief. Pooh hoo.
These degrading racist stereotypes and negative portrayals continue with the Slayer gang; a no-excellent mob of African-american animal-type, murderous criminals and “workhouse” regulars ready to gang rape white Steph at a moments opportunity — oh, puhleeze. Get over yourself. Not one non-minority is ever *degraded* in this manner.
Curiously the crimes of white non-minority fugitives; repeat offenders, shoplifters, robbers, etc, are trivialized as less vital and not realy explored as “right” crimes. The non-minorities, unlike their darker-skinned couterparts are offered our understanding; juducial protections and undeserved considerations, psychological counselling and probation, exoneration and social support. Evanovich, and many like her, should try harder.
Questions to ponder.
Why would Evanovich continue a degrading portrayal of ethnic groups in her series. What might occur if she were to change her methods – would her popularity and readership remain steady or plummet. Finally, is Janet Evanovich *ready* to risk upsetting her demographic-fan base by discontinuing a disturbing trend?
I doubt it. Do not hold your breath for an artistic awakening nor look for justice in book eleven.

I like these Stephanie Plum novels. I keep wishing that Stephanie would choose between Ranger and Morelli. But, Ranger is the tall, dark, and handsome. Stephanie is sexually very attracted to him. Hey, what is not to like about him? Then there is Morelli while very hot and sexually attractive too, he is more level headed. He is more realistic and wants to get married to her. One problem, she will not quit her job. I guess she likes being in danger.
Lula is the most hysterical character and Janet Evanovich does a fantastic job describing her and flushing her out. Connie was used a small more in the tale for example, the kidnapping. I will not say anymore. I do not want to spoil the fun!
Stephanie is a real excellent doer this time helping Carol Cantrell and her Fritos addiction. What is not to like about her? LOL! Then Sally Sweet is reintroduced to add a different element to the tale.
Once again another car is ruined by a fire and a couple of others are ruined with bullet holes and grafitti. She certainly should rely on mass transit! LOL! Of course, the ‘53 blue Buick survives it all!
The tale starts to unravel towards the end. I stayed up until 3 a.m. to end the book. I knew the reviews of the book going in and up until the end, I disagreed with the reviews. The book spiraled downwards quickly. The ending came all of a sudden smack and how Ranger and Morelli…. Well, I do not want to ruin it anymore.
But, the book is another excellent one from Janet Evanovich and it is certainly worth the read. I hope that she comes out with another one but has a better ending. Perhaps, she is running out of thoughts? So, the adventure goes on and on.
