After reading the ’sample’ on my Kindle, I would not buy the book. The sample included the publisher info, table of contents, dedications and acknowledgements. This was followed by a section titled, Forever in Fiction. This section told about how a person is immortalized in the novel. It also stated how profits from this book go toward charity in this person’s name. No, this does not make me want to read the book. I have read this leader before and establish her writing to be refreshing but will not buy her books just because of the causes it supports. It is the plot that intrigues me and spurs me to read the book. If the plot is not strong enough to entice me to read the book neither will the outcry to support some unknown charity.

The tale was as permanently awesome. Karen writes the best books ever. Sorry to say her publisher did a terrible job with quality control. I returned the first copy I bought because the pages were not cut correctly and some pages were much smaller than others and some pages hadn’t been cut apart so you had to tear the top to read the next page, but the second copy I received was also defective.

This was not the worst Kingsbury book I’ve ever read, but certainly not the best. It had a fantastic Christian message but a really lousy tale. Fortunately, I read her books for the encouraging inspirational message, not entertainment. This book was made up of not one but three “Idiot Plots” which ruined all potential drama. “Idiot Plot” is a Siskal/Ebert term which means the solutions to problems are so obvious that only an idiot wouldn’t see them, so if the protagonists hadn’t been total idiots, there wouldn’t be a plot. It was nice that God sent some “miracles”, even though none were really needed, but all the problems were so avoidable and simple to solve that they weren’t asking much of God. If any character in this tale had at least two brain cells rattling around his/her empty cranium, there may have been noise but there wouldn’t have been a book.

Karen Kingsbury has the gift of engaging her readers from the first word to the last. Another fantastic book and beginning of another anticipated series.
