This book is brilliant for Adult Children who had codependency family tree environment – not talking, not feeling (no processing-expression of losses, no trusting(over controlling/manipulation/rejecting/punishing/pouting). Question and you shall receive, wisdom, understanding. God promises that the Holy Spirit will lead you into truth and the truth will set you free. I need to read it every 3-6 months b/c we change and grow, and you learn more each year of your life. We are constantly overcoming our childhood for the rest of our lives. Thank you Christ Jesus. Amen

This is a brief and easily-understood explanation of what a healthy relationship is. I don’t remember any psycho-babble. Ms. Woitiz speaks from personal experience.

This book was recommended to my by my therapist and it am so glad that I bought it. While not every part of the book rang right for me, a fantastic deal of it did. I finished reading it about a month ago and it has helped me a fantastic deal in understanding much of what I do that is destructive to my relationship. I am applying what I have learned and am moving toward healing.
If you are an ACOA who can’t seem to make relationships work this slender but powerful book is a must read.

I had major issues, as all my siblings had, with bonding, friendships, relationships. Deep dread of abandonment, self despise, dread of closeness, of anyone getting to know me. I have not read the newer edition, but i would venture a guess that it is brilliant also. Entombed In Silence Our Small Hearts Beat No More

I like and recommend Janet’s “Adult children of Alcoholics” to my counseling clients…but I must say, I like this book too! And I like the John Bradshaw’s “Healing the bring shame on that binds you” book.Healing the Bring shame on that Binds You: Recovery Classics Edition (Recovery Classics) …… and the “Getting Them Sober, you CAN help” book by Toby Rice Drews (this book is a real lifesaver— my counseling clients tell me that Toby must have had a crystal ball in their living rooms! And that they read it and read it again, and sleep with it under their pillows, it helps so much.) Getting Them Sober: You Can Help! (Getting Them Sober)
