In this unique and invaluable guide, Dr. Meg Meeker, a pediatrician with more than twenty years’ experience counseling girls, reveals that a young woman’s relationship with her father is far more vital than we’ve ever realized. To become a strong, confident woman, a daughter needs her father’s attention, protection, courage, and wisdom. Dr. Meeker shares the ten secrets every father needs to know in order to strengthen or rebuild bonds with his daughter and shape her life–and his own–for the better. Inside you’ll learn:
• the essential virtues of strong fathers–and how to renovate them
• the cues daughters take from their dads on everything from self-respect to drugs, alcohol, and sex
• the truth about ground rules (girls do want them, despite their protests)
• the importance of apt a hero to your daughter
• the largest mistake a dad can make–and the ramifications
• the fact that girls really depend on their dads’ guidance into adulthood
• steps fathers can follow to help daughters avoid disastrous decisions and mistakes
• ways in which a father’s faith–or lack thereof–will influence his daughter
• essential communication strategies for different stages of a girl’s life
• right tales of “prodigal daughters”–and how their fathers helped to bring them back

As a man with a young daughter I was hoping this book would provide a bit of perspective on the relationship between father and daughter. My family tree is filled with sons, I am the only member of my family tree in this generation blessed with a daughter and was looking for a small advice. Sorry to say this is one preachy tome. It tells you that your daughter will grow up to be a drug using slut unless you attend church with her and teach her “gods values”. It gets one extra star because it does rightly say that the bond between a father and daughter should be valued by both of you. As a replacement for of using this book as a guide talk to your child and her friends not at them. Chances are they’ll be just fine.

This is an brilliant book written by a medical doctor, who shows the supreme importance of a Dad in the life of a daughter. He is vital to her development as a girl and a woman. It took me back to my own relationship with my daughter, who now has her Ph.D. and is a psychologist. After I read the book, and I establish myself hungry for each chapter, I am sending the book to my son, who has a young daughter himself.

As can be guessed by my title, I am not a conservative. (I’m not automatically a liberal either, but certainly side more-so to the left than the right.)
Adage that now for the record, I received this book from the in-laws. (Unlike my wife and I, they *are* right-wing.)
I recently ongoing reading it — while the mention of “Him” (aka God, or more specifically the Christian-based God, not a God [or god forbid a "Goddess" [i.e.: additional religions]) was a bit annoying, I thought, why not go yet to be and keep reading.
Then there were some sprinkles of scripture from some 2,000 year-ancient book (guess it must be the new tribute, as my understanding it the ancient tribute has some grave stuff in it — guess you can pick-and-choose when it comes to religion?) — this burned my eyes a bit more. Even so, I want to be the best father I can be to my daughter, so why not keep reading.
About an hour ago, I came to chapter eight, which is titled: “Teach Her Who God Is”.
OK… Now I draw the line!
This book is written by an alleged MD. While I have no reason to disbelieve Meeker is not an MD, I don’t know how she can get away with this crap.
I reflect I’ll be putting the book up for sale, as I refuse to read further. If I want right-wing spin, I’ll turn on FOX news.
As some of the additional reviewers have noted but, there is a small bit of excellent advice… But it’s nothing so profound as the second coming of Christ to the point that I am willing to continue to suffer the torture.

This book came highly recommended, but had to be one of the worst I have ever read – fantastic title, horribly written – read the first 44 pages, skipped a couple of chapters, and all that was said was the same thing over and over – watch out for STD’s, be there for your daughter, here’s some examples of girls lacking fathers who turned out horribly, etc.
Over and over facts are stated about a father staying in his daughter’s life – common sense stuff mixed in with a few eye opening facts – don’t waste your money on this book!!!!
