BF Skinner would like this one. It imagines that children are small rats in mazes who will respond to tokens and need no like or encouragment. Very useful for the parent who wishes to abdicate responsibility for their child.

This is an attempt to impose strict behavior modification concepts which were dated in the 1950s. It may work in institutional settings for limited children, but the use of tokens fails miserably with any spirited child. The application of these thoughts is impractical in real family tree life, especially if there is more than one child. A waste of paper.

This book is for parents who have never done any basic reading on parenting philosophies and haven’t selected up a copy of “Parenting” magazine in the last five years. The book is simplisitic and focuses nearly exclusively on how to give time-outs. I was disappointed – hoping for something more insighftful and thoughtful.

I establish this book to be reasonably informative. Of particular interest to me were: Grandma’s rule and the use of tokens.

I am a bit partial, as I had DR.Clark for classes, but this book is wonderful. Not having children at the time I first read it, I thought it was a small much. Now I have two of my own and I refer back to it regularly!
