Back in January I establish myself surprised and delighted with Julie James’ first two novels. I dubbed them “bibliocrack” because as far as cold Januaries and book slumps go, they were excellent for what ailed me and I keenly anticipated Ms. James’ third novel–SOMETHING ABOUT YOU. Fortunately, I didn’t have long to wait. In fact, the longest part about it was sitting in my chair at work knowing the book had arrived that afternoon and was waiting at home for me. Now persons are the things that really make the afternoon drag, you know? But I can’t complain too much as I did get to curl up at the end of the night knowing that both laughter and like awaited me within the pages of this charming novel.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde has clogged the deal on her latest case and is taking a much-needed one-night break at a local luxury hotel. But it turns out she selected the incorrect hotel as she is kept up all night by her loudly festivities neighbors. After calling the front desk to complain and peeking out her door when security arrives, Cameron is surprised to see a figure retreating from the room next door. Not long after FBI agents take over the crime scene and Cameron is restricted to her room as the only potential eye-witness. But it isn’t until Agent Jack Pallas walks into the room that she’s sure things are going to hell in a hand basket. Three years ago she and Agent Pallas worked together on a case to bring down one of the largest crime rings in Chicago. The case went down in flames and words were exchanged that could not be taken back. Jack’s career was nearly ruined and he was transferred out to the boonies to defuse the situation. Now he’s back in town and his primary eyewitness is the one woman he despises more than any additional.
You can count on a excellent time with a Julie James book and that’s what I like about them. The characters are incredibly likable. Even when they’re hating on each additional, you can tell that undercurrent of honest tie is going to win out. And, perhaps most likable of all, they don’t make the too stupid to forgive go. Don’t get me incorrect, J.D. comes mighty close in Practice Makes Perfect. Dude, seriously? On no kind of level was that ever going to be a excellent thought. And yet I still like him at the end. And, honestly, I reflect we have to chalk this up to them all being essentially excellent guys. Sure they walk around acting cocky and slightly treacherous (in Jack’s case certifiably lethal, really) but they’re at heart excellent guys with their priorities in the right place and their hearts firmly tethered to our girls’–an immensely endearing quality to this reader. Particularly when the girls are smart, educated, and deserving of a excellent guy’s attentions and affection. It all combines to make me incredibly pleased. And in SOMETHING ABOUT YOU we encounter perhaps the most likable of all. Both Cameron and Jack are so dang noble. It’s impossible not to like them both from the very beginning. And as their violent dislike isn’t really that at all, but based on a monumental misunderstanding (and no real despicable acts on their parts), I establish myself intensely fond of them both straight away and it was fun for a change to just watch them remember everything they liked about each additional as they worked together to solve the case. As permanently, James’ secondary characters shine and these were possibly my favorites of hers. Cameron’s friend Colin and Jack’s partner Wilkins are levelheaded and very intent on protecting their friends. Like I said, there’s simply nothing not to like. SOMETHING ABOUT YOU is an utterly enjoyable read from take in to take in.

In Chicago, Assistant United States Attorney Cameron Lynde cannot judge that in the Peninsular Hotel room next door are the Olympic gold medal champs in sexual gymnastics. When she thinks the event is over, she hears a murder take place. FBI agent Jack Pallas knocks on her hotel door to get her tale as the case has implications in DC. They have a history together, but he loathes her with a passion; she knows she does not deserve his hatred, but accepts his feelings as legitimate as he does not know the full tale.
Back in Chicago, Jack blames Cameron for his exile to Nebraska for three years when he was undercover on an organized crime investigation that she aborted. Assuming he is the target of a cosmic joke, to his chagrin, he wanted her then and still wants her now, but refuses to act on his desire because she betrayed him once before. As they work together, Cameron affirms what she already knew that she likes Jack.
This entertaining police procedural romantic suspense is a quick-paced read due to the argumentative lead couple. Cameron and Jack are terrific as they argue, fuss and fight over how to take down an organized crime mob while falling in like.

You know the Take in Girl catch axiom, “simple, breezy, and gorgeous”? These three words come to mind when reading a Julie James’ book. And that is the case with Something About You, a fun mystery with mature minded characters and a romance where Julie raises the heat to very pleasing results.
The way Something About You starts will have you laughing, as well as feeling sympathy pains for Cameron Lynde, an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the city of Chicago. Cameron is spending the night at a hotel because she had her floors in her house refinished. This gives Cameron the perfect excuse for some relaxation after effective on a very exhausting examination. She treats herself to a, “tranquil night of R&R”. But Cameron’s night is anything but tranquil because the couple in the room next to her are unbelievably vocal where they delight in very loud monkey sex that seems to go on forever. Cameron can’t stand the bed banging, “wham wham, more, more Huge Boy!” moans of sex at three in the morning.
Cameron finally falls to sleep after the lengthy sex fiends take a breather, but an hour later she snaps awake after hearing another loud bang. She’s fed up and places a call down to Guest Services. Soon after her call, Cameron hears a door open and thinks the rowdy sex people are trying to make an escape. She looks through her peephole and sees a very dressed down guy wearing very dark clothes. Also the fact that he takes the staircase as a replacement for of the elevator strikes her as odd, but since the whole night has been a loopy one, she shrugs it off. Hotel security comes to the rescue, but what they find shocks them. A woman is establish dead, suffocated by a pillow, and Cameron may have heard the crime being committed, as well as seeing the killer place.
Because Cameron is now a witness, the police won’t let her place her room, to her frustration. And Cameron is in for more unfortunate surprises when a man from her past is in charge of the case. FBI Special Agent Jack Pallas and Cameron worked together three years ago where he went undercover on a high-profile case. Because Cameron’s boss felt there wasn’t enough to prosecute, they didn’t bring the man, who tortured Jack for two days, to examination. Jack blames Cameron and was very vocal about it to a reporter. Because of his outburst, he’s transferred to Nebraska as punishment. Cameron and Jack are not pleased to see each additional again. Jack is still seething with rage and feels Cameron was reliable for his exile. Of course he doesn’t know the whole tale and how she really saved him from being fired. But Cameron is not in the mood for Jack’s surly attitude, even though she still finds him to be an Agent McHottie.
It seems the murdered woman was a call girl and the U.S. Senator for Illinois was using her services that night. And there’s also a sex tape involved. Talk about a whole lot of sadness for everyone. But Cameron major concern for the moment is going home and getting some much needed rest. Jack wants to wrap this case up and quick because he doesn’t want to be in Cameron’s life any more than he has to even though he can’t help but marvel if she’s married. Because Cameron is a special witness, she’ll have an FBI scrutiny watching her every go. Soon Jack wants to be her main protector because he can’t get over this smoldering attraction he has for and that continues to erect. And after Cameron is nearly shot and killed by the possible killer, Jack will stick by her side 24/7. Cameron has no choice because she is now living dread. But the one positive thing that comes out of this is the mutual dislike Cameron and Jack once had for one another changes and they delight in some heavy duty kissing against a few walls that nearly leads to some of their own loud monkey sex wall banging.
Third time’s a charm for Julie James, but with some reservations on my end. Overall, I establish Something About You to be an enjoyable read. Julie is seriously one of the best contemporary authors I can reflect of and really writes a nice balance, mainly with the relationship between Jack and Cameron. Julie is very skilled at writing warm and loving relationships, and that shows not only with the tie between Jack and Cameron, but with Cameron’s excellent friend from college, Collin, a gay sports write who brings a lot to the scenes he’s in as well as Jack’s partner Wilkins. I loved with the way Jack and Cameron are with one another and the way their relationship changes over the course of the tale. Their three year long attraction for one another enables them to get know one another, and from this, these two not only became lovers, but very excellent friends.
Persons who may have been disappointed with the lack of heat in Julie’s past few books will not be disappointed in any way. Julie can write some steamy, up against the wall, take me now sex. Jack and Cameron have incredible chemistry and there wasn’t one I preferred over the additional. These two are both on equal footing.
All in all, Something About You was a well written, thought out romance with a touch of suspense. I didn’t have many laugh out loud moments and at certain points I establish my eyes glazing over as the villain of the piece popped up and clarified his actions and his own back tale. But, this is more of a personal inclination on my end and one most readers may not mind.
Something About You was a levelheaded read that allows the reader an inside look at law enforcement and characters I loved spending a few hours getting to know.

I agree with what everyone here is adage! Fantastic dialogue and incredible chemistry between the lead and supporting characters. So glad I establish her. If you like witty,amusing,steamy,well writen tales then you’ll like Julie James. Her previous books are equally wonderful. Can’t wait for the next one!
