This is a colorful book and an acceptable reference for the collector building a collection although it has some incorrect information. Example: The leader’s classification of a tektite as “terrestrial”–the conventional wisdom, which says that these natural glassy stones are formed as impact melts, is dead incorrect! Charles Darwin was right back in 1844 when he described tektites as volcanic (although Darwin assumed them to be from terrestrial eruptions). Tektites are from the Moon! A hypervelocity impact happens too quickly to produce the “excellent,” bubble-free glass of a tektite; and the nearly waterless tektite is as dry as the Moon’s surface (the silicate roots of a tektite are igenous/granitic and assuredly not sedimentary as the leader notes!). The intricate research of NASA’s J.A. O’Keefe, P. Lowman, W. Cameron, and D. Chapman in the 1960s and ’70s (and current researcher D. Futrell), demonstrate conclusively that tektites are extraterrestri! al and of lunar volcanic origin.

This book contains a small bit of propaganda in support of Darwinism/macro-evolution and the Huge Bomb which ruins the whole book. A mentally ill evolutionist narcissist would rate a creationist book one star for promoting creationism in a single sentence, and yet this book has five evolutionist claims, all lacking evidence, lacking even a single reference to evidence that Planet is millions of years ancient (how convenient for these propaganda weasels).
This is predictable hypocritical propaganda that relies on pretty pictures and “professional talk” to bolster its evolution-related anti-Bible propaganda, so my one star is deserved.

I agree with positive reviews, but the print colors in my copy were too reddish. Rocks or minerals that were supposed to be white looked reddish. Black slate didn’t look black.

I bought this for a 14 year ancient rock hound. It is very well organized, wonderful photos of Rocks and minerals. Also gives instructions for hard. He likes it.
