Product Description
A Compelling Case for Intelligent Design Based on Revolutionary Discoveries in Science
In Signature in the Cell, Stephen Meyer has written the first comprehensive DNA-based argument for intelligent design. As he tells the tale of successive attempts to unravel a mystery that Charles Darwin did not take up—how did life start?—Meyer develops the case for this regularly-misunderstood theory using the same scientific method that Darwin himself pioneered. Offering a fresh perspective on one of the enduring mysteries of modern biology, Meyer convincingly reveals that the argument for intelligent design is not based on ignorance or “giving up on science,” but as a replacement for on compelling, and mounting, scientific evidence.

Absorbing Reading! How many of us knew how complex DNA and RNA really is? Today many of us are familiar with computers and software – yet amazingly the DNA/RNA relationship is shown to be more fascinating and complex. Stephen Meyer carefully walks us through fundamental concepts of probability and information theory. This kind of text book is rare – resorting only to cold facts and logic with the understanding of probability and statistics, it becomes clear that we are talking about information and information processing – strangely like a computer system. And that means one thing – Design. This book is cold hard facts and logic – no mention of God or religion except in passing. Bill Gates is quoted here as adage “DNA is like a computer program” p.385

What is disappointing are the reviews on this board, clearly made lacking reading the book (and lacking actual evidence) – seems to remind me of another theory!
Signature… should be mandatory reading in all schools whatever your belief or theory on life’s origins.
I am a computer software engineer and software quality engineer who has looked at this theme for many years. Dr. Meyer’s angle and lucid explanations are compulsive reading and a clear threat to the “religious” dogma of current evolutionary theory which remains a competing theory to Design.

Thanks Dr Meyer for an brilliant book. It’s refreshing to finally receive this information in light of the Darwinists domination and control of the media/educational systems and the one sided propaganda they spew. Open debate is critical to the American conduct experiment of a free and open exchange of thoughts.

Meyer examines the scientific methods used in past sciences and applies this to the enigma of the origin of biological information. He gives an appealing past account of the scientists and the methods they used to elucidate DNA ability to store digital code. He clarifies how, during his Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge, he saught to place the design argument on a proper scientific footing. He explores concepts such as specified complexity and relates this to Dr William Dembski’s “Design Inference” and Dr Michael Behe’s “Irreducible Complexity”. He discuses the implication of the thousands of molecular machines that are establish in cells and the digital code that is required to erect them. This is book is a must read for any one interested in the origin of biological information.

Dr Meyers has accomplished what is regularly diffcult to do in a book on science. In Signature in the Cell he has successfully open a perfect and detailed scientific analysis of the origin of life issues, but in a way that is understandable and fascinating for the layman. Anyone reading this book is really getting a college course on all the different factors involved in the origin of life research and debate. From the “huge picture” to the wonderful details of cellular activity, Dr. Myers paints a full canvas drawing on microbiology, science history, statistics, and logic. I have a degree in Chemistry from NYU and I have establish Dr. Meyer’s analysis not only sound but captivating– I could not place the book down. And I have recommended Signature in the Cell to my family tree members and friends, some of whom have no science background at all. This book is certainly a challenge to persons who have narrowed their focus into just believing in chance and mutation as an explanation for why we are here. And anyone who reads this book will walk away amazed at the overwhelming evidence for intelligent design.

Meyers proclaims in an literary atmosphere where debate is not welcomed but shouted down, what scientist have establish.there is no such thing as a simple cell. It is highly complex. Right science permanently re-examines it’s hypotheses and isn’t worried to be corrected when more evidence is learned and examined. The origin of information has too long been ignored. Natural selection can only choose from existing information. It can’t make new information. There is no example of helpful new information made by mutation. Plenty of examples of terrible mutations.
Persons so violently opposed to even looking in the microscope like persons who refused to look in Galileo’s telescope seem more like they are desperately trying to defend their religious beliefs than science. It truly does come down to a matter of faith as Darwinian Evolution has never been demonstrated or experimental scientifically. And by Darwin’s own admission as stated in On The Origin of the Species,”…Natural selection acts only by taking advantage of slight successive variations; she can never take a fantastic and sudden leap, but must advance by fleeting and sure, though slow steps.” Thus, Darwin conceded that, “If it could be demonstrated that any complex organ existed, which could not possibly have been formed by copious, successive, slight modifications, my theory would absolutely break down.” Even Dawkins thinks life must have been seeded here by an outside intelligence from some distant planet because of INFORMATION. Our DNA is far more complex than any computer program written by very intelligent people.
If you are worried to have your Darwinian worldview rocked, don’t read this book but if you are interested in pursuing truth by following the evidence where ever it leads, even if it makes you uncomfortable, this is a must read. I reflect Darwin would have approved. He was after all, a scientist.
