I bought this for my daughter for a class because Amazon had it linked to the hardcover of the same name. Tiny problem, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME BOOK. Only the first few chapters are the same. CHECK THE EDITION NUMBER AND PUBLICATION DATE your professor wants before you buy this older edition of the book.

I bought this book for my sociology in family tree studies class and it is perhaps the most useless textbook I have ever read. The contents are in a state together and resemble different clippings from different articles (I realize this is an anthology, but I would atleast like it to be well structured and meaningful). I didn’t learn anything significant from this book and I dread opening it. Save your money and don’t buy the book. And if you are a professor, please don’t choose this book for your students. I’m an undergrad student at a top 30 University, and lot of my peers agree that this book is confusing and not helpful to learning.

This book is hard reading at best. The leader is constantly quoting from copious studies and tossing around all kinds of (regularly superfluous) numbers & percentages. As a textbook it is a perfect failure. But since the book covers a number of studies, you would reflect it might be useful as a reference book. The problem is that reference books should not contain the extreme liberal feminist bias that this leader uses to color every page. If your professor requires you to read this book, I’d advise you to find another professor.

Not only did I receive the book very quickly, the seller personally made sure I had gotten it. Thanks for the fantastic work!

I entered the ISBN for the third edition and finished up with this book. While I do recommend this book for persons interested in the sociology of families and kinship, make sure if it is assigned for a class that you have the right edition.
