I got this book because I thought, WOW! Ten pattern included. I guess I should have looked a small further. The leader teaches to zigzag at the edges and then cut them off. Sorry to say, the fabric will still fray completely defeating the purpose of what the zigzag is meant to do.
Also, some of the patterns are kind of unadorned or dull. An apron, stuffed animal and then a tie. Some of the projects inside seemed cool, but this is no a beginner sewing book that I would recommend. Ms. Rupp should probably take more sewing lessons herself.

I was very disappointed in this book and sent it back to Amazon. It was way too basic and I am a beginner! I am trying to find a excellent reference and this was not it. The book doesn’t even come close to living up to it’s name. Waste of my money and time!

The book at a glance seems to really teach a lot of cool sewing projects. On closer inspection, but, one sees it doesn’t teach really, so much as share the fun Diane had in her own exploration of cutting and sewing. The ‘patterns’ are simply shells finished with seam tape, rather than perfect, tailored or finished, properly sewn items. Where is proper sewing technique in this book. One simply has to look at the tie photo to see that this sewist doesn’t care about making quality items. The photo of the tie shows that it isn’t even. The “V” of the tie is so off center that it could by a “Y”.
The leader clearly has fun in her sewing room, but doesn’t know proper sewing technique, or chooses to hide that fact in her book. If an interested individual wants to learn to sew, I recommend books that teach appropriate technique, rather than quick and furious stitchery that institutes terrible habits and sloppy finished excellent.
This “ancient hand” at a fine craft is saddened that publishers reflect a book is worthy of print because the leader has “fun” with their sewing machine.
Learn to sew, then write the book, please.
Should be named “How to sew like a 12 year ancient”. Uh, sorry, don’t give this to a 12 year ancient, give them a book that teaches them how to sew properly.

I only use this book for reference for threading a machine, to wind a bobbin and for basic reference. The patterns are none too exciting, and all I really want to make are skirts and basic dresses, so “Sew What! Skirts” is the book I look to for really making skirts. This was touted as the “Stich and Bitch” for sewing, and I don’t reflect that’s an accurate description. If I had to do it over again, I might still have bought this book, or I would have bought an older book with pictures depicting threading of a sewing machine.

I loved it! Got it on time & I’m really pleased with it! I really looked at it first at the book store & read a bunch of reviews before getting thee right sewing book, and THIS was it. And it really is! I recommend it for anyone. I mean it gives you all kinds of patterns and fantastic for beginners, even intermediate like me. Also very inspiring… it makes me more confident to sew projects now =).
