The Jewish Mother knows what she wants. And what you should want too. In Secrets of a Jewish Mother, you’ll learn how to make her methods your very own, and as result you’ll give and get of like and happiness in fantastic amounts.
In what could be thought of as the Jewish Mother’s Guide to Life, Jill Zarin, the breakout star of Bravo’s hit series, The Real Housewives of New York, teams up with her sister, Lisa Wexler, award-winning host of daily radio program The Lisa Wexler Show, and her mother, the estimable Gloria Kamen who made a splash on Jill’s series last year. Secrets of a Jewish Mother shows readers that being clear about what you want is the best policy, and standing up for yourself and your family tree is permanently the right way to go. Using real life examples, tales from Jill, Lisa and Gloria, this mother/daughter trio reveals their secrets to life, like, and happiness.
Some of their Jewish Mother tips include:
• Dating: “A excellent man is hard to find, but so is a excellent woman. Don’t settle for less than you deserve.”
• Parenting: “Honest is not permanently equal; equal is not permanently honest.”
• Family tree: “Bar mitzvahs and weddings: The grudge starts here.”
• Money: “Don’t wait ’til you’re dead to give it away.”
• The clichés that matter: “Bring a gift.”
And, remember, a lot of like and a small matzoh ball soup never hurt anyone.

Secrets of a Jewish Mother is a MUST-READ for every mother, daughter, grandmother, and aunt. A woman doesn’t need to be Jewish to benefit from the no-nonsense advice provided by these three exceptionally wise mavens. Throughout the book, they chat about a wide array of topics ranging from friendship, marriage, and parenting to hospital visits and funerals. The two gorgeous sisters, Lisa and Jill, along with their lovely and astute mother Gloria each share personal accounts from their individual lives to exemplify point subjects discussed in the book. This book could stand alone as a guide to establishing and maintaining a successful marriage and family tree. It should also be recognizable as an invaluable resource for all queries regarding etiquette. As a psychologist, I was contually amazed with the extraordinary insight these Jewish ladies had into human behavior. It’s no marvel Sigmund Freud is the product of a Jewish mother

I really loved “Secrets of a Jewish Mother”. I’ve already placed orders for two close friends and I’ll recommend it to both my married and single friends. The personal tales shared by Lisa Wexler, Jill Zarin and their mother, Gloria Kamen, made me laugh and weep. Gloria Kamen is a no-nonsense woman who tells it like it is and speaks with conviction, she’s very amusing and has a BIG heart. The book is not a “Jewish mothers are perfect” type of book. They have said that they have made lots of mistakes in life and will continue to do so, they each share many personal tales of about their mistakes. The women share the errors they have made and how they’ve grown as a result. The book offers fantastic career-advice; advice on finances, beauty, relationships and how they’ve maneuvered through hard family tree and business situations. They give a lot of credit to the men in their lives, which I thought was nice. It is not a book for Jewish women only; it has something for women of all ages, denominations and races. I reflect it would make a nice birthday, nuptial shower or Mother’s Day gift.

One of my favorite reads of 2010. This book is not just for mothers, but really for women (Jewish and not), who want to read about the lives and advice of three extraordinary women as they talk about life, like and happiness. Kamen, Wexler, and Zarin are natural authors whose tales really apply to all women everywhere. This book would make an incredible gift, especially with mother’s day around the confront. Calling “Secrets of a Jewish Mother” a must-read would be an understatement. It was heart-warming and insightful, and I highly recommend it.
