Product Description
A nine-thousand-year-ancient conspiracy. Three families. One secret. The epic race to uncover history’s greatest mystery has begun.
Beneath the sparkling blue water of a remote Pacific atoll, a hardhearted killer stalks an underwater archaeological dig. His goal: to bring his employer—billionaire industrialist Holden Ironwood—an impossible manufactured article that proves a lost civilization’s knowledge of astronomy was thousands of years yet to be of its time.
At the same time, in the Armed Forces DNA Identification Lab in Maryland, haunted young researcher David Weir risks his freedom to identify a handful of people with nothing in common except their nonhuman genes—genes that he shares.
While in the Arctic tundra, a deadly airborne assault on a pipeline crew propels young paleogeologist Jessica MacClary into the innermost circles of her staggeringly wealthy and powerful family tree as she learns the astonishing secret her ancestors have defended since the beginnings of recorded history.
Now these three strangers on their separate quests to unlock their pasts are unexpectedly driven into violent crash, only to learn that together they hold the key to answering the essential question of humanity’s origins—provided the U.S. Air Force doesn’t stop them first. . . .
Acclaimed New York Times bestselling novelists Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens once again bring their unique blend of relentless suspense and cutting-edge science to a page-turning tale of adventure that spans the globe and millennia of human history, racing from long-buried ruins in Cornwall and the casinos of Atlantic City to the forgotten caves that protect a shocking revelation that will tear the veil off the right history of humankind.
With a mystery more profound than Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, and scientific speculation more provocative than Michael Crichton’s Next, Search is an adrenaline-fueled, action-packed thriller that goes beyond wild theories of very ancient astronauts and sunken empires to suggest a startling new vision of the birth of human civilization.

I’ve been a massive fan of the Reeves-Stevens’ for years. My first exposure to them was with Prime Directive, one of the first Star Trek novels I ever read and one that still stands out in my mind today as one of the best Star Trek tales ever told. Their novel Icefire has remained my favorite fiction book since I first read it in 2000, and I establish their subsequent thrillers Quicksilver and Freefall to be very levelheaded novels in their own right. In fleeting, I was avidly looking forwards to Search.
The Reeves-Stevens have not disappointed with this work. This novel departs to some extent from their previous thriller works, which were levelheaded adventures with rich characters that also spent time taking a careful and simple-for-the-reader-to-know look at the equipment so critical to the tales. It’s a excellent pattern for thrillers, especially because so many pay attention to only two of the tech, the plot, and the characters, with characters frequently getting the fleeting end of the stick. This technological element is still present in Search, but takes a backseat to the rich mythology made as the essential frame to the novel, a change I reflect works exceptionally well for this particular book.
My favorite part of any novel are the characters, and their hand for characterization shines clearly throughout this novel. The main characters are as smart and capable as could be hoped for; everyone has their own talents that make them indispensable, and no one comes across as useless or tacked on. Just as vital is the antagonists, who aren’t two-dimensional caricatures of evil, but have real motivations and plans. The real characters take the work from a fascinating thought that might not hold any actual water, to a realized tale that seems like really it happened to people you really know.
The book starts with three major threads: David’s inquiry into his own genetics, Jessica being indoctrinated into her Family tree, and Ironwood’s search for aliens. These three threads start off separate, but become deftly natural fiber together with the Reeves-Stevens’ signature talent for never dropping a ball. The background they’ve developed is deep and intriguing, and I establish myself as curious as the main characters to reveal the truth behind everything we reflect we know. When the conclusion is reached, it’s as action-packed and revelatory as any reader could hope for.
I reflect this book is another fine work by the Reeves-Stevens, and a levelheaded tale that will place you thinking long after it’s over. I recommend it wholeheartedly to new readers as well as to ancient fans.

Courtesy of [...]: “SEARCH is a powerful blend of stunningly thorough research blended convincingly with detailed speculative fiction lovingly draped on a framework of taut pacing.”
Never beholden to Daniel Brown’s half-baked, though admittedly massively successful conspiracy novels, SEARCH aims privileged. Brown managed to take widely known and commonly kicked-around conspiracies and transform them into unlikely international adventure tales. But, SEARCH takes the time to erect up its own past mythology while constructing a unique conspiracy to challenge the Reeves-Stevens’s levelheaded collection of smart, capable heroes.

Like many additional readers, I first learned Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens via “Federation,” the greatest Trek novel ever written — and one of the best straight-up science fiction tales I’d ever read. Since then, I’ve read most of their additional work and followed their career with interest. They’ve never let me down, and they even nearly managed to resurrect the craptacular “endeavor” series with a final season that blew me away. (It was the reference to Berengaria 7 that did it. From then on, I was hooked!)
So here comes “Search,” a novel I stumbled upon while looking for something fun to take on a camping trip. I blew through it in three fleeting days. No, it’s not high art, but it’s fun and thought-provoking, and that’s really all I question from my recreational reading. It’s also intelligent about the science vs. religion debate, which I appreciated.
Anyway, “Search” was exactly what I expected it to be: An intelligent techno-thriller that had a microscopic bit of science fiction thrown in for excellent measure. I can’t wait to find out what happens next to David and Jess and Lyle and Roz. If you’re looking for something diverting to fill trip down time, you can’t go incorrect with “Search.”

I have been an all-out converted fan of the Reeves-Stevens’ since I read (and LOVED) their Star Trek novel, ‘Federation’. Yeah, I KNOW what you’re thinking: but I thought this was a techno-thriller?? Well…it IS. This spouse-wife writing phenomenon have written a pretty incredible variety of novels over the years. They may best be remembered for their absolutely incredible Trek books (ALL of which are a HUGE cut above even the best *regular* Trek tales available) but, that all changed when they unrestricted ‘Icefire’ back in ‘99. Even Stephen King said it was incredible…and yes, he was 100% right. Talk about a techno-thriller on steroids! They have since followed that up with several additional fantastic novels in the same vein (Quicksilver & Freefall), but I judge ‘Search’ is treading on entirely new ground for this couple.
At the heart of the tale we have one world-class ‘What If’ conspiracy–of course I’m not gonna ruin it for you, but TRUST me, the tale rocks. Ever since Dan Brown unrestricted the Da Vinci Code, there has been (factually) an over-plenty of similarly themed past/regligious-themed thrillers, the VAST majority of which were obviously written to capitalize on the immediate craze lacking ANY regard to plot…most were about as deep as a teaspoon (if that…). Not so with ‘Search’…not at ALL. At once we have multiple storylines all progressing along reasonably rapidly–most of which seem completely unrelated to one another–but never dread, they ALL tie together before long in what has GOT to be one of the more creative plot-lines I have read in reasonably some time. While I wouldn’t automatically clarify the *Mystery* as ‘more profound’ than The Da Vinci Code, it certainly IS more so than what we learned at the end of ‘The Lost Symbol’ (whose ending was ultimately a let-down if you question me).
While NO living leader (or dead for that matter) can write with the kinetic energy on the printed page like Matthew Reilly, there ARE a few authors who come pretty close. As far as realism is concerned, most blow Reilly out of the water, seeing as pretty much ALL of his books are wildly inventive, but all but impossible to swallow. ‘Search’, while more believable, certainly DOES require some beefy suspension of disbelief in order to get through–but then again, what techno-thriller doesn’t more or less? I really want to be more in-depth regarding the fabulously creative storyline, but one of my #1 pet peeves here at amazon are reviewers who take the time to spoil so much for unsuspecting readers who want nothing more than to just see if you liked what they were thinking of purchasing. I refuse to give away such detail…but, I WILL say this: if you are looking for a techno-thrilling, ass-kickin’ adventure, look NO FURTHER than ‘Search’. TRUST Me, but you get a copy of this fantastic novel, it will certainly be money well spent. I can hardly wait to read it again.

One of the ways, perhaps the most vital way, I select Kindle books is on the basis of the reviews I read. That has worked very well for me in the past. But not this time. The reality about “Search” I didn’t pay sufficient attention to was that it had only 3 reviews when I bought it. Mistake. I’m writing this review, my first, to let others know not everyone is tickled with “Search”.
“Search” is not a horrible book. It is generally well written and a excellent read, except when the authors attempt to add science lectures to the tale. When they stick to the plot, “Search” is appealing and moves along at a excellent pace. So, what’s my beef? I’ve been reading Science Fiction and Fantasy for more than fifty years, if “Search” belongs to the genre at all, it’s only at the fringe. If I had read the various editorial reviews carefully, I might have guessed that. “Techno-thriller”? Yes. Science Fiction? Hardly. If you’re looking for an SF, you may well be disappointed. If you expect an archaeologically themed techno-thriller, that’s a different tale.
To my way of thinking, as an SF fan, the end of “Search” was disappointing. While it did resolve the thriller aspect of the tale, it left the more appealing issues raised by the book hanging. Frankly, I expect a compelling tale line, but I also expect some appealing science fiction/speculation to be fleshed out. Which leads me to my last point. It is common practice, these days, for tales to span multiple books. It would be nice to be warned when that is the plot. “Search” reads like a book that is setting up a trilogy.
