I really loved this book. I feel like the authors are my best friends, and by the end of the book you know their individual tones so well, you know who is writing each chapter lacking having to even look. I don’t know if a already serious runner will delight in this book as much as a “beginner” running. I would say I am kind of in between the two, and there were parts that I thought were to some extent redundant for me, specifically the first couple of chapters. That being said, even persons parts were entertaining and fun to read. I was hoping there would be more direction for getting back into a routine after 9 mos (ok…a year…)of not running, but the authors only suggest sites you can go to for training programs. I really loved the 0.2 pat of the chapters as well as the small boxes of information scattered throughout the book.

I met Dimity and Sarah briefly at the Zooma Women’s Half Lengthy, bought the book and LOVE IT. It gave me the motivation to tie up my shoes on Monday after running my first half-lengthy on Saturday.
You do not have to be a “serious runner” to get a lot out of this book because judge me, no one would mistake me for a serious runner. I delight in running for a lot of the same reasons the authors do–it makes me feel excellent and gives me time to myself for myself.
The book is mostly alternating personal essays from the authors. It really helps a lot that they trade off because you will likely identify more with one of them than the additional–I am more of a “Dimity” style runner. I try to stay zen about end times in my runs. Sarah is the more competitive of the two and I am sure a lot of readers will identify with her approach to running.
So if you are looking for a book that will make you feel excellent about your self regardless of whether you are finishing a lengthy or your first run around the block, get Run Like a Mother!

As a running mother, I thought the book was terrific. I run for myself, but appreciate being a part of a larger community of “running moms” who face the same challenges as I do. It’s a quick and very amusing read and I know I’ll reference it time and again for wisdom, encouragement and humor. I highly recommend for all running women.

I bought this book with a lot of hope and some trepidation. I’m a lapsed runner, and my last serious race dates back to the postpartum year after my first child was born, when I was keen to show myself I still had my powerful mojo. I just had my fifth child, and ordered this book to help me get inspired again. The authors’ voices are real, thankfully, and the essays are honest and accessible. The training tips are fantastic, because they’re rooted in an understanding all the things mom use as excuses NOT to run. But what got me really lacing up my shoes again was the page full of fleeting quotes by women adage how they feel after running. Powerful. Competent. Strong. Optimistic. It was like a quadruple dose of any of persons herbal mood-boosters hocked by health magazines!

I am not an official mom, just a runner. Then again, as a cr?che teacher, I could be considered a mom… this book is for ANY woman runner who has a wildly crazy and wonderfully confused life. There are words and chapters that will have you laughing out loud and others that will bring a lump to your throat. But the book in it’s entirety, covers all the aspects of running – clothes, bodily functions, kids, spouses, times/distances, aches and pains and just about ANY additional issue relating to running. What is so heartfelt about the book is the real life tales and advice Sarah and Dimity share – open, honest and genuine. Whether you are a mom or not or run 5 miles a week or 50, you WILL get something out of this book. While there are many running magazines out there, I trust the sentiments and words of wisdom in this book because it is written by real women who have experiences we all can tell to. Way to go Sarah and Dimity! Continue to RUN LIKE A MOTHER!
