A six-part reading guide, suitable for individual use or group discussion, is included in this best-selling novel.
Tale Behind the Book
“Writing Redeeming Like was a form of worship for me. Through it, I was able to thank God for loving me even when I was defiant, rebellious, contemptuous of what I thought being a Christian meant, and worried to give my heart away. I had wanted to be my own god and have control of my life the way Eve did in the Garden of Eden. Now I know to be loved by Christ is the essential joy and fulfillment. Everything in Redeeming Like was a gift from the Lord: plot, characters, theme. None of it is mine to aver.”Amazon.com Review
In this splendid retelling of the biblical tale of Hosea, bestselling leader Francine Rivers pens a heartbreaking romance between a prostitute and the upright and kind farmer who marries her; the tale also functions as a reminder of God’s unconditional like for his people. Redeeming Like opens with the Gold Rush of 1850 and its rough-and-tumble atmosphere of greed and desire. Angel, who was sold into prostitution as a child, has learned to distrust all men, who see her only as a way to satisfy their lust. When the virtuous and spiritual-minded Michael Hosea is told by God to marry this “soiled dove,” he obeys, despite his misgivings. As Angel learns to like him, she starts to hope again but is soon overwhelmed by dread and returns to her ancient life. Rivers shines in her ability to weave together spiritual themes and sexual tension in a well-told tale, a talent that has propelled her into the spotlight as one of the most well loved novelists in the genre of Christian fiction. This is one of her best. –Cindy Crosby

I ordered this book for a Christmas gift. It (rumor has it that) got lost by the Post Office which assumes NO RESPONSIBILITY. BE SURE TO INSURE YOUR PURCHASE BECAUSE NO ONE WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS IN 2008 UNLESS YOU pay SOMEONE, LIKE AN INSURANCE COMPANY. We have “come this far”.

Ok,I must admit to feeling foolish enough for getting this from my library, when the synopsis itself is pretty terrible. But,I am appalled that this book is recommended so regularly in Christian book threads on forums. I stopped reading after just a few pages when I had run into more profanity than in many secular books! I cannot judge that any Christian bookstore would carry a book such as this, filled with words like b@s@@@d,used as a curse word, for pete’s sake,NOT to clarify a child with an unknown father!
All I can say is I can tell the difference between an apple tree and a peach tree, and this book has no business being on ANY Christian book list! I will NEVER recommend this trash to any Christian,in fact I will do the opposite and warn them away!
Filthy,unbiblical SMUT!

How many times can you say the same thing! This book repeats itself so many times, I establish myself adage, “here we go again.”

Though I read this book once years ago, I still regret reading it. It shocked me to read so many awkward graphic scenes in a Christian book. This book is one explicit scene after the additional, connected together through a weak storyline where you know what’s going to take place in the end.
The leader was recommended to me, so I expected something fantastic. Oddly, it seemed like a non-Christian book with Christianity randomly thrown in and sometimes out of place.
Throwing in some biblical references doesn’t automatically make this a “redeemed” book, nor one that the Christian fiction market’s readers should be scrambling to read. It’s not that the theme is terrible–but some scenes perhaps could have been done in another way.
This is a Christian book that’s polarizing. Readers tend to either really delight in it or are disturbed by the content. It will either be one of your favorite Christian books, or one that leaves you discomfited. I fervently recommend reading the one-star reviews about the book, as many of the reviewers make more in depth points about the flawed theology in this book.
