This novel was intriguing in the beginning but slowly dimmed towards the end. I wished Ms Garwood would have brought up a notch the chemistry between the main characters. BRADFORD JERED MARCUS BENTON is as arrogant as he is STIFF! Caroline is, or at least BECAME, nothing but a WIMP pretending to be courageous. Overall, a dissatisfying and predictable tale.
SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT!
fantastic reads by Ms. Garwood are “Ransom”(the best of all), “heartbreaker,” “come the spring,” and “mercy”

I’m in no way a feminist and I delight in an arrogant hero, but Jared was really unlikable. He was arrogant in a mean and condescending way and he stripped the spirit right out of Caroline.

This tale was slow, uninspiring, and hardly sensuous, desirous, or entertaining. The characters are lifeless and the tale, dull. Don’t waste your time. If you want truly wonderful past fiction novels, go to Judith McNaught. Any of her past fiction novels are worlds better than this one.

I LOVE this leader, but this book was dreadful. It ongoing out fantastic, but I quickly came to dislike this duke, Bradford. Caroline shined at first, but that didn’t last long once she took up with Bradford. JG’s heros are permanently a small arrogant in an endearing way, but this guy was very domineering and reasonably the cad.
He kept adage he takes what he wants, including women. I can only conclude that he would have [molested] Caroline if she weren’t willing.
The moment he chose he’d be the only man to court Caroline, he started to tell her what to do, and not very nicely either. At one point he told her he’d beat her if she didn’t obey him! Caroline said not a word!
JG has had her heros say this before but it was permanently taken as a joke, or had been said in a light-hearted manner.
Here we had a spirited, smart, and talented woman in Caroline, and the leader turned her into a wimp by pairing her with this overbearing ogre. I did like his friends, but.

Jared, the Duke of Bradford, ongoing out as a nice guy, but he quickly showed his right colors. He was overbearing and bossy and crude to the lovely Caroline. She was a fantastic woman until she took up with him, then she became mousy and it didn’t suit her at all.
