I LOVE THIS COOKBOOK! Not just because the leader is black, and lets face it that is a plus, but because this is a really excellent cookbook.
When I first saw it in Barns and Noble I didn’t buy it because I didn’t reflect I should pay take in fee for a cookbook with an Onion Ring recipe in it. I mean come on, do I really need a cookbook to tell me how to cook Onion Rings, Collard Greens, and Grilled Vegetables?! I thought NO and I’m sure you are thinking NO as well.
Well I’m here to shed some light on this for everyone! I had persons Onion Rings and they were ssssoooo excellent! But what made me turn around and buy the book was the Peach Cobbler recipe! IT IS TO DIE FOR! REALLY! I made it for a non-lacto-vegetarian and they loved it. Also I can’t get over the “Tuno Tempeh Sandwich, the “Something’s Fishy Tacos”, the “Homemade Veggie Burger”, and late but not least and the BEST recipe in the book, “Filet o’ Tofish Sandwiches” (I pushed the Tofu before hand). Can you tell I’m a huge lacto-vegetarian fish girl?! Even the Tarter Sauce was excellent.
I can’t wait until the next cookbook. What I like most is she goes through all the stuff she uses in the book and reviews it first thing. In my opinion it is the BEST book for new vegans. If you are already a lacto-vegetarian cook the beginning isn’t really vital so skip yet to be to the recipes. She goes into the veal a small too much for me as a long time lacto-vegetarian.
But really the recipes are GREAT for the most part quick and simple. So of the stuff you have to really look for in Whole Foods if you’re not use to cooking with it.
Some of the recipes in this book are high in stout and calories so just be where , it’s called COMFORT food for a reason!

..the recipes contained Nutritional Values. Going lacto-vegetarian doesn’t automatically mean the recipes are low-cal or low stout, and it would be fantastic to be able to make excellent decisions on dishes based on the standard nutritional values.

I just got this book, read through most of it and I reflect it’s going to live up to it’s high rating.
I’ve only made the Tacos Pecadillo so far but it was brilliant. My spouse thought so, too.
I was worried that the calories and stout would be too high as it is “comfort food” so I entered the info into [...]. Took a small tinkering with their database (which does include TVP!) and came up with these numbers assuming her recipe is four servings (I really prefer to stuff them fatter and eat fewer taco shells, the least nutritious part of this recipe):
475 calories, 233 calories from stout, total stout 25.9 g (40%),Saturated stout 3.8 g, trans stout 1.9 grams, cholesterol 0 g, sodium 364 mg, total carbs 47.3 g, dietary fiber 12.2 g, sugars 10.7 g, protein 18.6 g, vitamin A 67% RDA, vitamin C 57%, iron 25%, calcium 16%.
Not too terrible for comfort food!

I have a leisure activity of collecting cookbooks, mainly lacto-vegetarian and vegetarian cookbooks. I will honestly say that this is by far the best of them all. Everything I’ve tried thus far is tasty. The mac and cheese is superb (thank God I really establish a lacto-vegetarian mac and cheese recipe that I like—I really reflect it’s even better than the non-lacto-vegetarian version!) I also made the breakfast sausage and blueberry muffins, both with fantastic success. I can’t wait to try more.
Now, I have a LOT of cookbooks, and I reflect I can say that this will easily top the list. I hope the leader plans on writing more in the future. If she does, she can count on a repeat customer.
