This book came in the time frame allotted and was in absolutely fantastic condition. No complaints whatsoever!

It is nice to see books that offer complex physics lacking heavy math. It is disappointing in the case of books like this one where the science is watered down as well. Nothing of interest remains.

My understanding of classic physics made me marvel if there is any way God can be involved in our life. This book “Quantum Enigma” very well open two things to me: (1) the role of consciousness in making reality, and (2) the spooky action at a distance. It made me posit that God’s consciousness combined with the spooky action can give wide freedom in God’s involvement.

Quantum theory is reliable for one third of our economy, and it is the most successful theory of all time, yet few physicists want to face the “quantum enigma” or the “meaning” of this theory.
Although the solution to this enigma remains unresolved after eighty years, the problems can be simply stated, and the authors of this book do an exemplary job of presenting the quantum enigma for anyone to know.
The “three pillars” of the Copenhagen interpretation of reality: quantum probability, the uncertainty principle, and complimentarity, as well as a thorough treatment of chimes theorem of inequality are all clarified in fantastic detail with all of the implications it offers for the topic of consciousness and free will.
The two most vital questions of our era, the quantum enigma and consciousness may be fundamentally related, and the resolution of one could have implications for the understanding of the additional. “There is no way to interpret quantum theory lacking in some way addressing consciousness” (156).
We all know that we are conscious, because consciousness is a subjective experience. This is the first book I’ve read on this topic that offers an “objective” proof that consciousness exist by simply using the principles of quantum theory. This alone makes the book worth reading.

Quantum Enigma may be worth much more than three stars.
In all fairness I do not know how to rate the book accurately yet.
First impressions are that it is more spiritual than I had expected
or hoped for in a book that is supposed to stress that quantum is
not magic or mysticism. It is also distractingly wordy for me.
When so much is written I quickly marvel what I have missed.
As I keep reading and rereading to pick that up I
tend to place off completing the account.
But our students need something beyond
routine problem sets to get them going.
And older guides might well do with some updating:
With quantum mechanics being reliable for or at
least very connected with 1/3 of the U.S. economy I
must keep reading for my students’ long range welfare.
There is so much potentially riding on – say entanglement
with its several well-identified applications – for our
engineering, science, and equipment students. We have
to find a way to get through to them with a minimum of
fuss so that they can function hopefully
appreciating the basics of the phenomena.
Emphasizing that quantum mechanics permeates the
economy helps the authors make the theme appear more
substantive. Referring to quantum physics as quantum mechanics
might also focus the discussion.
Physics theories can be very useful even if or
perhaps because they do not have to be taken factually.
They regularly function very effectively as models that bypass or
minimize literal truth. Let us not burden our young people
with a lot of baggage – or better – opinion that they might
not need to function competently. Then we and the more
culturally or philosohically sensitive and introspective
students in our classes can grow and learn together as
we get more used to the theme.
Again Quantum Enigma may well be worth
much more than three stars.
