I have read all of Jen Lancaster’s books and it’s like reading a train wreck. Through her books I have yet to know her sense of superiority. She claims she was an average student, she’s okay looking, she has no ability to save money or invest, no sense of compassion, people do not like her, she can’t train her dogs or get along with her neighbors etc etc…
In every situation open, she wants to be the queen bee. The problem: she’s not qualified. She is not smart, glamorous, friendly or compassionate. Who would want to make her in charge of anything? She is socially inept and she keeps trying to reach the pinnacle of whatever her desires are but never learns the rules. If she would have gained some insight into herself, this would have been a better book. It comes off as a person who is bitter because she doesn’t fit in socially the way she deems appropriate. In the footnotes (which are ridiculous on a kindle) she writes that she wanted to be Blair from Facts of Life. Maybe she should have faced the truth and realized she is Natalie.

The softer side of Jen? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first read that Jen Lancaster was preparation a prequel to her fabulously amusing trilogy, but this was humorous and nearly nice. I still laughed out loud and I even had a normal blood pressure check at the doctor since I couldn’t stop reading enough to get worked up about the visit. This new book shows that clothes will permanently stand out in most girls’ memories and what part they play in out lives. We also find out the right tale of her “lost” college years. Now I need to know, what will Jen write next?

I permanently worry that Jen Lancaster won’t be able to top her last effort. When I ongoing reading “Pretty in Plaid,” the first few chapters had me a small apprehensive…I wasn’t laughing as hard as I usually do when I read Jen’s work. But, the new book chronicles Jen’s early years, and seeing as how she wasn’t reasonably as obnoxious when she was a small girl, that clarifies why the first couple of chapters were a bit drier than usual. But, once this book selected up the pace, it was a laugh riot all the way to the end.
“Pretty in Plaid” reflects back on Jen’s early years and clarifies how fashion and style (and at one point, a lack thereof) have permanently had a major impact on her life. Jen veteran a massive culture shock when she stirred from the East Coast to “Cow Town,” Indiana, as a young girl. College was an even larger reality check, as poor Jen had no thought who Louis Vuitton was and why acceptance came at the cost of a 4400 handbag. By the time Jen made it to the business world, she was struggling financially but determined to look excellent.
Through all her exploits, Jen remains sassy, stubborn, and downright hilarious. I highly recommend this and all her books to anyone looking for a excellent laugh!

Just like her additional books, the way she writes will have you laughing out loud. This one in particular will have you remembering things from the 70’s and 80’s that you have tried to forget! You won’t want to miss it!
