Christopher Horner, hailed by Glenn Beck as a Watchdog” and praised by Rush Limbaugh as the longtime go-to guy on global warming extremism,” has compiled a jaw-dropping account of the government’s arrogant plans to take over America’s access to abundant, afforable energy—and by doing so, take over our economy and limit the individual freedom we’ve so long taken for granted.

Chris Horner is a fantastic writer, but I establish this book not to be an astute and nuanced discussion of the issues of climate change and an alternative energy transition. Rather, it was conspiratorial, poorly informed, and alarmist. It is ironic and hypocritical that the very “hysteria” that Horner and friends accuse the Greens of is employed here in Horner’s book. Horner depicts a fictional scenario of an energy future, that completely disregards economics and policy. I have been impressed with Horner’s work in the past, especially with critiquing climate policy. But in this book he could have seriously used an additional research team to check his facts.

Chris Horner’s third book in a series of books about the global warming “crisis” is a mind-numbingly well-researched expose on the Obama administration’s plot for fighting global warming and making thousands and thousands of green jobs. Horner is an attormey and knows well the value of research. He uses hundreds of direct quotes from Obama, his appointees, members of Congress and members of environmental groups to show you where the administration has stirred and is likely to continue moving. Even more damning is the knowledge that many members of the EU have already taken this actions and they are now backing off from them.
Horner’s impeccable research is so strong, so deep (more than 800 endnotes fill more than 80 pages at the end of the book) and so overwhelming that in some chapters I establish myself benumbed, reading one quote after another from yet another member of the Congress or the administration that showed an astounding disregard of history, the use of power in this country, economics or just unadorned ancient common sense.
If there is a weakness to the book it is precisely persons chapters that become a parade of evidence. At first I was shocked, than angered but after a while I just got tired of looking through the mountain of evidence. Fortunately, Horner usually follows up a “slow” chapter with a more lively one. Also, it must be noted that I am complaining about the scenery of the presentation in persons few chapters, not the scenery of the evidence nor its weight.
I may also be influenced by the fact that I was already won over to Horner’s side in his previous two books. In fact, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism) was the book that was my “Road to Damascus” moment where I confronted reality and then the scales fell from my eyes (to borrow an analogy). This book couldn’t live up to that kind of moment (how many Road to Damascus moments can a guy have?) so it was bound to be a bit of a disappointment in comparison.
That being said, this a worthy book, an update on the The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming (and Environmentalism)(I recommend you start there) and Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed.

Christopher Horner’s credentials are well-customary through his writings. He is a diligent, very careful researcher who approaches global warming alarmism and the environmentalists drive to quash individual and national freedom with the mind of a lawyer, which he is trained as.
In the first few pages, Horner paints a frightening picture of the United States in a few years if currently proposed environmental legislation and programs are implemented. Limited electricity, limited gasoline and oil. Perfect control of individual lives by government and its environmentalist allies.
Impossible?
Horner proves not only that it is possible, but probable unless the American people recover control of their government.
Right now, as Horner clarifies in depressing detail, a coalition of venal, greedy, power hungry politicians together with venal, greedy, power hungry business people and venal, greedy, power hungry environmentalists want your money and your freedom. They march under the banner of “progress”, but what they really want is power and control over the economy and personal life.
They will be the masters, living large, and we will be the slaves who support them.
Sound dire? It is.
But just wait until you see the flow of money from corporations to politicians, from environmentalists to politicians. The politicians sell themselves – and he people suffer.
This is a frightening book – and one that you, if you are concerned for the United States, must read and read now.

Mr. Horner has written a very informative book about the “green” energy policies of the Obama administration and how these policies would hurt the average American. Mr. Horner also relates the scams used to sell the Obama policies and the ideological, political, and economic interest groups that push these policies.
Among aspects that Mr. Horner discusses in detail are the “green jobs” hoax. Supposedly the green energy policies will produce more jobs in the renewable energy fields. But the government subsidies used to make so called green jobs really ruin more jobs in the additional sectors of the economy because more money is needed to make a green job than a job in another sector of the economy. Promoters of renewable energy aver that China and additional countries lead the United States in the production of windmills. Hence the United States must go for renewable energy to produce the energy devices of the future. Mr. Horner points out that China produces and exports windmills not because China is blocking hydrocarbon and nuclear energy but because China has a comparative advantage in manufacturing windmills. China has the low labor costs and additional costs to produce windmills.
Mr. Horner exposes the interest groups supporting high cost renewable energy. These include labor unions who hope to gain members from unionized green energy jobs and businesses like All-purpose Electric who produce renewable energy devices. And of course there are the environmentalist fleeting sighted advocates with their ideological anti growth and anti American postulates.
Mr. Horner demonstrates that the Obama energy policies mean much less and more expensive energy and the consequent reduction of both freedom and prosperity. The ecofreak movement is in truth an assault on America and its people. Although the book could stand some editing it is a impressive accomplishment. This book deserves to be read.
