I read the book because it was listed as a fantastic classic in English Literature. If this is a fantastic classic, I am on the incorrect planet. The main character, the artist as a young man, is insipid and disparaging to life itself. James Joyce emasculates the title of leader and fantastic classic. After reading the b ook, I threw it away. I do not recommend this book.

i couldn’t even get past chapter 3. it bored me explicably. young steven’s thoughts jump back and into the world no explanation agreed. Read portrait of an artist as a young dog by Dylan Thomas. reasonably a bit better in my opinion.

I loved Dubliners — truly profound. I loved Ulysses — truly hilarious and appealing. But I despised this pompous dull garbage. Yes, I know all about Joyce’s irony in dealing with himself. But that does not change the fact that Stephen D is a dull, pretentious loser. A huge disappointment. Don’t read it. Burn it.
