  1. L. Young says:

All the Peterson Guides are well known as meadow guides and permanently useful.
    Reader’s Rating: 4 / 5

  2. Michael says:

I am permanently curious what things are, bugs, birds, etc., and this guide works fantastic for me. There are larger, more perfect guides available, but, I have yet to find a bug I couldn’t find in this text. It is tiny and lightweight, perfect for camping or a hike in the woods. It fits fantastic in my glove box where it stays for quick identification.
    Reader’s Rating: 5 / 5

  3. Like to know what knid of insect that was but all persons huge heavy books are a pain to carry. This small book is just the thing for your walk or trip. It is simple to look up an insect with over 200 common insects of North America inside. It makes a fantastic gift too, kids or adult will all delight in this handy small book. Don’t get just one!
    Reader’s Rating: 5 / 5

  4. A. Brooksby says:

This is a fantastic book for common name identification of a wide variety of insects. But, I could not find any scientific names; not even the names of the different orders or families.
    Reader’s Rating: 4 / 5

  5. This is a fantastic book for both the beginner as well as persons who are at the intermediate level of their study of insects.

It makes for a excellent first exposure to the taxonomic key. I professor who I knew who taught entomology at Loyola University in Chicago had this book as one of the course texts for his students. I am sure he is not alone. Illustrated with both line drawings and photographs it is the standard work on insects of North America.
