Owl at home is more than a simple sweet childrens tale. This book is really an analogy to Walt Emerson’s essay “Scenery” and I am the leader. After studying Zen Buddhism for twelve years as a Japanese archer I started to feel within me the spirit of our beloved Owl. Owl is a creature of scenery like you and me who exists in a constant search of finding how he exists in relationship to the world. As he explores his role in the world he learns valuable lessons that teach him healthy perspectives until he at last transcends the boundaries he has attempted to define by being content with his excellent round friend, the moon.

We absolutely like all the Arnold Lobel books (especially the Frog and Toad series), but Owl at Home is my 2 1/2 year ancient’s favorite. It is consistently what he questions me to read him before bed (or any additional time for that matter). The tales are very simply worded but profound. Lobel writes and illustrates wonderful small books that are sweet, smart and rich with meaning. I highly recommend any of them, but especially Owl at Home.

So charmingingly simple – my kids (2 – 4) like these tales. If only there were more tales from Owl’s world! “Bunps” – a tale of the mysterious bumps under Owl’s covers that drive his imagination wild had my son laughing and reenacting the tale with his own covers at night. This is a fun book for ages 2 – 4.

I just bought this for my 33 year ancient sister as she is going through some hard times with a relationship’s break up. This book seems to bring comfort as an ancient memory of similar books that I loved as a child because they helped me feel safe and see the world in a wonderous way. Can’t remember all the titles but they include Ancient Black Witch, Suzy Stasher, and additional various otters, cats, and creatures.

LOVE this book. Like it. My son likes it. I like the tale about Tear-Water Tea. And…the last one about the moon. Fantastic writing. Fantastic tale telling.
