Product Description
Folly Beach, South Carolina, has survived despite hurricanes and war. But it’s the personal battles of Folly Beach’s residents that have left the most scars, and why a young widow has been beckoned there to heal her own…
To most people, Folly Beach is simply the last barrier island before reaching the fantastic Atlantic. To some, it’s a sanctuary for lost souls, which is why Emmy Hamilton’s mother encourages her to buy the local book store, Folly’s Finds, hoping it will distract Emmy from the loss of her spouse.
Emmy is at first resistant. So much has already changed. But after finding like letters and an image of a gorgeous bottle tree in a box of used books from Folly’s Finds, she decides to take the plunge. But the seller insists on one condition: Emmy must allow Lulu, the late owner’s hard sister, to continue selling her bottle trees from its back yard.
For the most part Emmy ignores Lulu as she sifts through the like letters, wanting to learn more. But the more she discovers about the letters, the more she understands Lulu. As details of a possible murder and a mysterious disappearance during WWII are revealed, the two women learn that circumstances beyond their control, sixty years apart, have brought them together, here on Folly Beach. And it is here that their war-ravaged hearts can find hope for a second chance…

I selected this up because I thought the book jacket sounded appealing. The two tales (present time and WWII era) flipping back and into the world with a bit of mystery sounded like a perfect read. Wow, I was right! I factually could not place this book down. I went on a beach trip with it and spent the entire time on the sand reading this book. I couldn’t even be bothered to get into the ocean.
This is a fantastic tale and I learned a lot about WWII and how close to the right action we really were here in the US. The two tale lines intertwined for a super read and I would suggest to anyone to pick this book up and just try and place it down!

On Folly Beach I was taken back to a visit I shared with my aging Mother in 1987. We had a wonderful time and also dined at the Atlantic Restaurant mentioned in the book. I remember telling her that the restaurant had been really washed away by Hurricane Hugo. I saddened me to reflect about it because we thought it was fun to look thru the cracks of the floor and see the water from the tide. Mother died in 1999 and I am glad I have memories like this to remember.
I lived the tale and was taken away to Folly Beach for a pleasant time. The characters were very believible, although I got a small tired of Lulu’s attitude toward Emmy at first but settled in to accept it after awhile.
I loved the changing of years throughout the tale and it was very simple to follow each change and I started looking forwards keen to see what happend next. I was really drawn there and living all of it.
I recommend it to anyone for a delightful but mysterious too. I loved it!

I like her books. This one takes place during 1942 and 2009. About two lovers who write to each additional on pages of books, they cannot be together but they try, Current times about a women who loses her spouse in Afganastain and is really having a hard time moving on, so she buy’s a book store on Folly’s Beach, and that is where she finds the like notes written on pages of books and becomes intrested in the tale of Maggie and Peter. In fact she must find out what happened to them, but nobody really knows except one person and she will not talk until the end when she knows she must be the one to tell the truth since she is the one who only knows what happened that one night long ago.
