Oliver Twist is a classic tale of a boy of unknown parentage born in a workhouse and brought up under the cruel conditions to which pauper children were exposed in the Victorian England. With this novel, Dickens did not merely write a topical satire on the workhouse system and the role of the 1834 New Poor Law in development criminality. He made a moral fable about the survival of excellent, a romance, and a gripping tale in which he exploited suspense and violence more effectively than any of his contemporaries.

It includes his preface of 1841 in which he defended himself against hostile criticism, and includes all twenty-four original illustrations by George Cruikshank. I don’t reflect anyone should appreciate the works of a genius. Genius works is clearly a drudgery. The book, Crime and Punishment, is a fantastic example of a novel that shows class and excellent writing by a “regular” writer. Charles Dickens and super gifted and no one should appreciate that. One should appreciate the hard way of learning and thats what normal people do … they grasp the material with efforts. genius’ have the simple way out and thats the main example of Charles Dickens. And anyways who wants to read about an orphan. You know that it’ll permanently be a happoily ever after tale that can no ppoint, no class, no morals, and no pride. I encourage people to read A Tree Grows IN Brooklyn, an simple to read novel that really tells you something.

While cultural pundits try to convince you that some literature is better than additional literature, the truth is that all art is relative to individial tastes. Thus, it doesn’t make any sense to reflect that a novel like this one is really any better than say, Michael Crichton or Stephen King. Aesthetic standards can’t be grounded.
Thus, don’t listen to anyone who tries to distinguish between “serious” works of literature like this one and allegedly “lesser” novels. The honor is entirely illusory, because no novels are “better” than any others, and the concept of a “fantastic novel” is an intellectual hoax.

I here alot about how this book is a classic and how it has an incredible tale, blah blah blah… Well, here’s a view from a Freshman in HS. This book really blows. It has some excellent moments during the action sequences, but in all honesty, Dickens makes this tale way longer than it had to be by straying away from Oliver and the thieves. It’s not exactly the most absorbing tale to read. If your in HS and want a really excellent book, read Michael Crichton’s “Timeline” (that’s going to be a kick @$$ movie)or “Watership Down,” 2 much more exciting adventure tales.

Don’t buy this! It’s horrible! The only excellent part is the character referred to as “Master Bates.” The tale is stupid, pointless, and written in a style that is dull and hard to follow. One paragraph consists of two sentences, one 159 words and the additional 175 words. That’s what I call a run-on! Only read this if you absolutely have to for school or have sleeping problems!

As a 14-year-ancient about to enter high school, I am highly offended by your review stating that “persons who aver that is novel is dull and the worst they have ever read…basically have no right to criticize this novel.” Let me question YOU something. Do you see what it says at the middle of the page? It says SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS. Which means that if anyone dosen’t like this book, than, basically, they DO have a right to review this novel.(The only exception is when they post it repeatedly and insult others who disagree with them. That’s trolling.) I beg you and additional reviewers to consider this. Just because a name dosen’t like a piece of literature dosen’t make them a bone idle bum.
