Product Description
“The dead don’t talk. I don’t know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a fleeting-order cook in a tiny desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in like with the most gorgeous girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn. Maybe he has a gift, maybe it’s a curse, Odd has never been sure, but he tries to do his best by the silent souls who seek him out. Sometimes they want justice, and Odd’s otherworldly tips to Pico Mundo’s sympathetic police chief, Wyatt Porter, can solve a crime. Occasionally they can prevent one. But this time it’s different.
A mysterious man comes to town with a voracious appetite, a filing cabinet stuffed with information on the world’s worst killers, and a pack of hyena-like shades following him wherever he goes. Who the man is and what he wants, not even Odd’s deceased informants can tell him. His most ominous clue is a page ripped from a day-by-day calendar for August 15.
Today is August 14.
In less than twenty-four hours, Pico Mundo will awaken to a day of catastrophe. As evil coils under the searing desert sun, Odd travels through the shifting prisms of his world, struggling to avert a looming cataclysm with the aid of his soul mate and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. His account of two shattering days when past and present, fate and destiny converge is the stuff of our worst nightmares—and a tribute by which to live: sanely if not safely, with courage, humor, and a full heart that even in the darkness must persevere.

This is the worst Dean Koontz book I have read.
Dear Mr. Koontz,
Please refund my money! I have read most of your books and loved all except this one. “Odd Thomas” was an extremely weak attempt to mix like and horror. I saw dead people on the currency I used to buy your book. Sorry to say, I will never see persons particular dead presidents again.
Here is what I thought was incorrect with the book:
While trying to convey the like that Odd felt for Stormy, Mr. Koontz lost sight of “our” (the readers) intelligence and felt it necessary to constantly remind us how much Odd was in like. Soon it started to feel forced and lame – you are so gorgeous, you are my soul mate, you are the greatest, you are unbelievable, you are the reason I live, you are my inspiration, you are the wind beneath my wings – give me a break.
The book did have its few moments of excellent storytelling, but for the most part it was Mr. Koontz effective hard at pushing out one more book so he can collect another paycheck.

Worst written book ever structuraly and plot wise. The leader has the worst writing technique ever. He talks about something them moves on then goes back and you easily get lost. Action in the book doesn’t make sense. As if the writing structure wasn’t enough torture to go through, the plot also wreaks. The killers turn out to be police officers, people you barely were introduced to in the book. That isn’t a twist!!! A twist is where you are introduced to a name in a book in depth and you least suspect them of being murderers. In this book, the killers are “Suddenly” police officers which we bareley know. Total waste of time and money. Worst book ever. It deserves a negative rating. People who gave it 5’s obviously are easily amused or the terribly written structure of the book forced them to day dream while reading and they thought their day dream was the book. They need to wake up.

Dean Koontz is an brilliant writer and he is by far my favorite. i loved and cherished each book that he wrote………..except this one. This book made me reflect his recent writings were pure crap so i chose to stay away from them. but i ran out of books to read so i ongoing reading his recent stuff and establish it was very excellent. its just this book is confusing, the plot was confusing, and what the hell is a bodach? If you read all of dean koontz’s oldies and didn’t read his recent stuff yet don’t pick this one up. i suggest velocity or life expectancy. I just don’t see how everyone likes odd thomas. and for the icing on the cake……….a sequel called “forever odd”. so im suggesting not to pick that up when that comes out also. MCL

I will never buy another Dean Koontz book!! I loved this one until I was informed that I couldn’t re-sell it. Koontz won’t allow resale. If he doesn’t have enough money by now, he never will be satisfied and I won’t participate in his egomania.

The ending is too depressing – If I had it to do over, I would never have read it.
