Product Description
Thought Police. Huge Brother. Orwellian. These words have entered our vocabulary because of George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel, 1984. The tale of one man’s nightmare odyssey as he pursues a forbidden like affair through a world ruled by warring states and a power structure that controls not only information but also individual thought and memory, 1984 is a prophetic, haunting tale.
More significant than ever before, 1984 exposes the worst crimes imaginable-the destruction of truth, freedom, and individuality.
With a new forwards by Thomas Pynchon.Amazon.com Review
Among the seminal texts of the 20th century, Nineteen Eighty-Four is a rare work that grows more haunting as its futuristic purgatory becomes more real. Published in 1949, the book offers political satirist George Orwell’s nightmare vision of a totalitarian, bureaucratic world and one poor stiff’s attempt to find individuality. The brilliance of the novel is Orwell’s prescience of modern life–the ubiquity of television, the distortion of the language–and his ability to construct such a thorough version of hell. Required reading for students since it was published, it ranks among the most terrifying novels ever written.

1984 is the worst book I have ever read. I would advise anyone who is thinking about reading this book to reconcider! George Orwell is not a terrible writer, but, this book he does not do evry well on, as some of his others. Prehaps he was getting ancient and lost his touch. Animal Farm was okay, but 1984 was horrible. It took him forever, it seemed like, to get into the accual book. If a name were to take out all of the useless part of 1984, it would be half as long. Why would he wirte so much about nothing? I havent ever meet a name who could wirte such a dull book about the goverment. I have meet many people who have loved this book, but i dispised it. I am not at all intrested in the goverment. This may be part of the reason that I didnt like it. I would advise you not to read this book.

This particular piece of literature, entitled 1984 and written by Goerge Orwell, was 1980 dull. Being a seventeen year ancient teenager, with a mind of my own, made it extremely hard to stay all ears on something so sinister and [weak] as this so-called “classic.” I can sum up my thoughts of this book using few words…Reading this book was like HELL! And for persons of you who are more visual, it was like trying to keep a white T-shirt clean while eating spaghetti. This book just didn’t grab my attention. I simply couldn’t “connect” with the characters (Winston, Julia, Syme, O’Brien and Huge Brother). To me, they were all just a bunch of names and not “real” people. Many sections in the book allowed me to connect the book and the real world toegether like abortion and how the government is slowly apt more apart of everyone’s daily life.
BOTTOM LINE: From this collection of 245 pages, nothing tickled my fancy. The thought that a 40 foot tall pine tree was but down to print this accumulation of modern day gibberish is sad indeed!

It was a very excellent description of life during anti-social time

This book is entertaining, but hardly prophetic. The world is not like 1984 or even close to 1984. Anyone who thinks so needs to learn more about the world or 1984.
The problem with this dystopic vision is that Orwell really doesn’t know equipment or the way that it affects the world.
