Yaxmine Galenorn has written a novel bound to be remembered. Incredible vampires, fae to creep you out or make you fall in like, a host of paranormal characters, many bent on indescribably mischief!
I have loved all of this writer’s books but with NIGHT MYST she shows the burgeoning power of her talent. One wonders just how far she can go–I doubt if there are any limitations.

This is the quickest review I can come up with for this awesome book. Cicely Waters is a Witch with ties to a town called New jungle. When she finds out her family tree is in danger and things at the homestead are all sorts of spooky, she decides to investigate. Her homecoming isn’t the kind dreams are made of though. With guilt ridden memories, disappearing family tree members, terrible guys galore and an ex, Grieve, to deal with you’d reflect Ms. Waters had enough on her plate. Sorry to say, persons matters are nothing compared to the real distress in New jungle. With a bevy of likeable characters, you’ll find yourself immersed in Cicely’s world before the second chapter and really obsessed before the sixth. I wasn’t sure I would like this leader as this was the first book of hers I’ve read, but with an opening like this how could I not:
And she arose from her deathbed in a gossamer gown, with eyes the color of starlight and hair as black as the night. And persons who were her captors trembled, for the scent of death and madness emanated from her soul, and yet- she was not dead. She stirred like the spiders that creep in the treetops, and none could look away. Taking her first captor in hand, she fed deep and ravenous. And so it was that Myst, Queen of the Indigo Court, was born from the blood of the dead.
Yasmine Galehorn has a gift for dark, enchanting prose. On more than one occasion I establish myself painstakingly creeped out not only by the horror she describes, but by mood she sets leading up to it. This book is a spine tingling excellent read and the romance WILL NOT disappoint

From reading additional reviews, I’d like to clarify to readers that – despite what others have written – “Night Myst” is NOT an urban fantasy book but a DARK fantasy book. *Sigh* I feel sooo much better getting that tidbit out of the way!
On to the review…
“Night Myst” by Yasmine Galenorn is the first offering in a new dark fantasy series revolving around such wonderous (and wicked) beings such as the Fae, vampires, magic users, shapeshifters, and I reflect that’s about it (for now). Our lead heroine, Cecily Waters, is a magic user who has lived the past few years of her life on the road, having been the child of (then to some extent reliable for) a selfish mother who placed her own needs/addictions above her daughter. Despite the fact that her mother’s been dead for the past two years (due to a combination of drug use & the addiction to being a “bloodwhore” for vampires), Cecily remained on the road – effective odd jobs & never staying in one spot for too long. She is summoned by her Aunt Heather & cousin Rhiannon – both magic users like Cecily, back to her hometown of New jungle because of malevolent happenings that have been occuring. Additional magic users have either died (usually in violent ways) or have gone missing & the local police aren’t helping any. The town’s elderly “head” magic user died very recently by having her throat ripped out & left Cecily her store (which offers spells/enchantments) as well as her position as the new head in town.
Cecily returns to New jungle, and despite being glad to see her relatives once again, she’s also concerned about running into her ex- like Grieve, a Fae prince, whom she left behind years before. Soon enough, she reunites with Grieve because of a family tree problem & she finds him much changed (and not for the better).
I’ll sort of stop there, not wanting to divulge more of the plot – but Cecily comes to find that an evil new Fae court (the Indigo Court) has come into power because of an manufacturing accident some years ago & they are proving to be a major threat to magic users, vampires, and Fae alike.
Fans of dark fantasy books will delight in the quick pace & action of “Night Myst”…it’s a book that grabs readers from the first paragraph and doesn’t let go. Galenorn’s rich environment of otherworldly beings is fascinating and offers some appealing supporting characters (such as Chatter, Rhiannon, Kaylin, Lannan, & more) that give real life to the plot. All in all, an brilliant read & a fantastic addition to the dark fantasy genre.

With the murder of Marta the witch whose throat was ripped apart and the death two years ago of her mother Krystal, Cicily Walters can come home as her reawakening wolf wants to. She inherits Marta’s magic business. This would mean finally returning to her hometown New jungle, Washington after two decades on the road with mom. Reluctantly, she feels the time is right.
In New jungle, something weird is happening to the magic born. They are either dying or vanishing. The NFPD ignores what is going on to some of the citizens as does the vampire overlord. Worse, Cicily senses a different disreputable shadow lingering as dread owns the Cascades town. Cicily’s friend, Fae prince Grieve tells her to place if she is smart and her aunt has been abducted and allegedly has become a blood thrall to the vampires; if she still lives. Not heeding Grieve’s advice, Cicily fights back but the fae-vampires are coming for her too.
The first Indigo Court urban fantasy is an entertaining tale that introduces the reader to a world filled with mythological species and magic. Cicily is a levelheaded person who has doubts about coming home after her mom fled town with her as a child and replacing Marta. But, the rest of the cast feels overwhelmed by too much insight into the rules of magic and what each paranormal species can do. Still the opening supernatural war is fun to read. Myst has begun the end of days that will place her ruling the world.

Cicely Waters has establish it is time to return home to New jungle, her hometown in the state of Washington. Having lived most of her life on the streets, going from town to town with her drug addicted mother, now that her mother is dead, Cicely is going home. But it is not a welcoming homecoming. People in New jungle are dead and going missing at an alarming rate – both humans and persons that are magic-born. The crimes are too brutal and messy for the Vein Lords, or vampires to be held reliable. Cicely hears from her aunt Heather, that Marta, the town witch has been cruelly murdered and has left everything to Cicely -including her spot the secret Thirteen Moons Society. But the membership is being depleted by a dark, evil force.
Although physically Cicely is returning home alone, she permanently has her wind elemental, Ulean, at her side, whispering in her ear of dangers that lurk yet to be. Cicely is not just returning to confront this new, treacherous presence, but she also must confront the man she loved and left behind nine years ago. Grieve is a Fae prince and she has no thought if he still wants her in his life. When she finally finds him, the situation is dire. Grieve is not the same man she left years ago, now fearing this evil force may have affected him. When Heather goes missing, Cicely turns to her friends for all the help she can get. Grieve warns Cicely, Myst, the Mistress of Mayhem has stirred into town – and mayhem is just what Cicely is about to dive into.
Night Myst is the first book I have read by Yasmine Galenorn and I am so glad I finally got my act together! She sets up a very appealing world, told in the POV of Cicely, with many characters walking that fine line between excellent and evil. You don’t permanently know who to trust and I like the tension that comes along with this type of tale line.
The vampires in this book are very predator in scenery, and what makes it really fun is that they are evil, and bid Cicely to do things she regrets – yet they aren’t the worst evil in the world. Cicely must resign herself to work with these viscous creatures in order to fight the Indigo Court, the even more viscous beings that roam the woods. She has to pick the lesser of two evils to survive, and it makes for a very appealing tale. She is not the only one with tough decisions. Her like, Grieve has had to make sacrifices with very intense consequences. He is so dark, mysterious and her heart breaks for him. You want Cicely to say – screw it, come her you sexy man – but Grieve is not one to toy with.
While overall I loved our heroine, I thought a few times Cicely made some silly mistakes while in the throes of fantastic danger. Her and her friends tromp into the extremely treacherous woods ill prepared for what they are about to face. At one point, after sneaking into the woods and then building an unnecessary noise which alerts the villains of her presence she then questions whether Myst, the leader of the baddies will punish her victims for her intrusion. I reflect she might, Cicely!
Otherwise, this is a cool world Yasmine Galenorn has set up. I like the hard choices Cicely is forced to make. Grieve and Cicely also have some very sexy moments and there are many twists that really add to this urban fantasy. My favorite part is how the books ends – because you will be dying for book two, Night Veil due out next summer. Night Myst is a fantastic start to a new series.
