It’s “I Do!” and “I Didn’t!” in Ann B Ross’s new Miss Julia adventure
Sometimes even Miss Julia just wants to go to bed and hide under the covers. Her spouse, Sam, wants them to attend marÂriage enrichment classes. Could their marriage be in a poor state? Even worse, the psychologist leading the sessions is Dr. Fred Fowler-a man Miss Julia could go forever lacking seeing again and one she’d certainly rather not introduce to Sam.
But she can’t stay in bed for long, even if she wants to. A name has knocked Francie Pitts in the head and place her in the hospital. Francie didn’t see her attacker, but she sure smelled her. She recÂognized Etta Mae Wiggins’s perfume, Shania Twain by Stetson. It’s up to Miss Julia to clear the air.
As if playing detective wasn’t enough, Miss Julia still needs to show Sam that there’s life left in their marital batteries-even if it means his are going to need some recharging. Perhaps a bit of Shania Twain might just solve all her problems.
Readers flock to Ann B. Ross and her well loved southern heroine. Miss Julia Renews Her Vows is filled with the wit, sass, and odd charm her readers have grown to like, and is poised to hit the bestseller list.

I like Miss Julia, and have read everyone of her books. I had pre-ordered this for my Kindle, and then received a notice that it would not be available on Kindle. Anyone know why, and if it will be offered later?

Once again, Ann B. Ross has come up with a delightful and fun book to read. Julia and her family tree continually entertain me. I can’t wait for the next book to see what Julia is up to.

Miss Julia warns Mr. Pickens that he better not break the heart of her late spouse’s mistress four months pregnant Hazel Marie. Pickens, married three times, swears they will marry. Hazel Marie’s son Lloyd is elated with his new daddy while Miss Julia and her second spouse Sam plot a nuptial party though the bride is not invited as the hostess lies to her guests that Hazel Marie married in San Francisco a few months ago.
Pastor Larry Ledbetter invites Sam and Julia to a marriage counseling seminar hosted by a Christian shrink Dr. Fred Fowler. Sam agreed, but Julia is panicked that Fred is the host. After her cheating first spouse died, Fred was nice to lonely grieving Julia until they started kissing in the chapel; Ledbetter caught them. Fred blamed Julia. She fears Sam’s result to her being labeled a loose woman.
The nuptial party is a success although home nursing helper Etta Mae Wiggins is late. Everyone accepts why Hazel Marie is not there as she had a doctor’s appointment and that she and Mr. Pickens married. Soon afterward to get out of going to Fred’s seminar Julia claims to be ill and bedridden; and Etta Mae calls Julia from jail asking for Binkie the lawyer. She was accused by her client Francie Pitts of knocking her out and stealing a bracelet. Miss Julia continues to dodge Fred while effective on proving Etta Mae’s innocence.
Miss Julia is her usual flustered self managing to make a mountain out of a mole hill to the delight of her heap of fans. As permanently, the support cast is strong as they enhance the heroine’s fears and shenanigans while she also takes care of her friends and family tree. Although Miss Julia’s behavior re not telling Sam the truth lacks her usual ethical fortitude, readers will let that slide as her escapes make for a fine cozy.

The Miss Julia books take us to a place where the pace is slower, the people really spend time face to face (as a replacement for of hooked up to an electronic contrivance) and where manners and morals are clear (at least as far as Miss Julia is concered!). Miss Julia is the kind of woman who does things the right way. But most of the time she has the most outrageous adventures just trying to “make things right.” You have to like a woman who still uses calling cards and informals and who had the sense to marry Sam Murdoch!

If it’s spring, it usually time for another “Miss Julia” book and I look forwards to it every year. Eleventh in the series, “Miss Julia Renews Her Vows” has us catching up with all our ancient friends from previous books and getting to find out what Miss Julia is up to this year.
Carrying over from the last book, Hazel Marie is pregnant with twins and Mr. Pickens is finally building an honest woman of her in the opening scenes as they head off to a quick marriage ceremony. As with everything in these amusing books, it may be quick but it isn’t simple ! Multiple tale lines diverge from there as Etta Mae takes a front and center role this time out and our usual cast of characters including Sam, LuAnne and others get caught up in the mystery that runs throughout the novel.
As with all the Miss Julia books, they are not action-packed and quick moving, but boy are they fun ! This one is no exception and for fans of the series, I don’t reflect you will be disappointed. To truly appreciate these, it would be helpful to go back and start at the beginning, effective your way through the series. While it could stand alone, this book is at its best with the background knowledge of the others. One thing I really want to complement the leader for – Miss Julia has really grown as a character over the years and while retaining her wonderful quirkiness, she has really changed honestly considerably from the stiff, unbending character we met in “Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind”. It would have been so simple to take what worked and keep in the same, but Ms. Ross has done an brilliant job with this character and I am so grateful as it has helped to keep my interest over the years.
Overall – a fun, enjoyable read that is a fantastic way to spend a silent afternoon.
