Product Description
From a lead the way in the meadow of mental health comes a groundbreaking book on the healing power of “mindsight,” the potent skill that is the basis for both emotional and social intelligence. Mindsight allows you to make positive changes in your brain–and in your life.
• Is there a memory that torments you, or an irrational dread you can’ t shake?
• Do you sometimes become unreasonably mad or upset and find it hard to cool down?
• Do you ever marvel why you can’t stop behaving the way you do, no matter how hard you try?
• Are you and your child (or parent, partner, or boss) locked in a seemingly inevitable pattern of conflict?
What if you could escape traps like these and live a fuller, richer, more pleased life? This isn’t mere speculation but the result of twenty-five years of careful hands-on clinical work by Daniel J. Siegel, M.D. A Harvard-trained physician, Dr. Siegel is one of the revolutionary global innovators in the integration of brain science into the practice of psychiatric help. Using case histories from his practice, he shows how, by following the proper steps, nearly everyone can learn how to focus their attention on the internal world of the mind in a way that will factually change the wiring and architecture of their brain.
Through his synthesis of a broad range of scientific research with applications to everyday life, Dr. Siegel has developed novel approaches that have helped hundreds of patients heal themselves from painful events in the past and liberate themselves from obstacles blocking their happiness in the present. And now he has written the first book that will help all of us know the potential we have to make our own lives. Showing us mindsight in action, Dr. Siegel describes
• a sixteen-year-ancient boy with bipolar disorder who uses meditation and additional techniques as a replacement for of drugs to cool the emotional storms that made him suicidal
• a woman paralyzed by anxiety, who uses mindsight to learn, in an unconscious memory of a childhood manufacturing accident, the source of her dread
• a physician–the leader himself–who pays attention to his intuition, which he experiences as a “vague, uneasy feeling in my belly, a gnawing restlessness in my heart and my gut,” and tracks down a uncomplaining who could have gone deaf because of an inaccurately written prescription for an ear infection
• a twelve-year-ancient girl with OCD who learns a meditation that is “like watching myself from outside myself” and, using a form of internal dialogue, is able to stop the compulsive behaviors that have been tormenting her
These and many additional extraordinary tales illustrate how mindsight can help us master our emotions, heal our relationships, and reach our fullest potential.
A book as inspiring as it is informative, as practical as it is profound, Mindsight offers exciting new proof that we aren’t hardwired to behave in certain ways, but as a replacement for have the ability to harness the power of our minds to resculpt the neural pathways of our brains in ways that will be life-transforming.

This book provides a clear and engaging description of the complex interaction between the brain and the mind. Case studies help the reader know practical applications of the thoughts discussed in the first part of the book. I want to see more practical advice, exercise descriptions and additional practical help for people who want to try this approach.

To me, this book read like a text book. Perhaps that was the leader’s intention. But, I did not expect a transformational book to read that way.
The book was appealing and informative regarding the theme of how the mind works.
The leader also described a way to meditate so as to help train your mind to focus. But, the meditative process was so intricate it couldn’t be done lacking reading the book. (I’ve never heard that meditation works with a book held in front of your eyes.)
All in all, I establish the book appealing, informative, and impractical because no one can expect to be transformed by reading it. In order to be transformed, one would need to hire a therapist to run him through the meditation process, the body scans, and to know how each individual’s relationship problems came to be and where the individual needs to retrain his mind so as to live a peaceful and fulfilling life.

This book has enriched my education practice affording me a deep understanding of the brain and its relationship to rage and emotional wisdom. I highly recommend this book to all health and healing professionals.

Minsight is one of the best non-fiction books I ever read. Although my scientific expertise is not in the meadow of psychology I judge that in this book Dr. Siegel provides a potentially life-transforming perspective and understanding about the mind.

Loved this book. Gave me hope for breaking some terrible behavior patterns. Loved the scientific information to back up his approaches to therapy for his patients and especially loved reading about his individual experiences w/ particular uncomplaining populations. I am going to hear him speak in person at the Annual Synmposium for Psychotherapists in D.C.!!
