Product Description
Police chief of a tiny Massachusetts town, Cameron McDonald makes the toughest arrest of his life when his own cousin Jamie comes to him and confesses outright that he has killed his terminally ill wife out of mercy.
Now, a heated murder examination plunges the town into disruption, and drives a lock into a contented marriage: Cameron, aiding the prosecution in their case against Jamie, is suddenly at odds with his devoted wife, Allie — seduced by the thought of a man so in like with his wife that he’d grant all her wishes, even her wish to end her life. And when an inexplicable attraction leads to a shocking treachery, Allie faces the toughest questions of the heart: when does like cross the line of moral obligation? And what does it mean to truly like another?
Praised for her “personal, detail-rich style” (Glamour), Jodi Picoult infuses this page-turning novel with heart, warmth, and startling candor, taking readers on an unforgettable emotional journey.

I am still in the process of reading, about 1/2 way through, but have read
her books before and am a huge fan. The book arrived in brilliant condition and I would order from the seller again.

Picoult displays her usual masterful prose in this deeply felt novel about the power of like. Jamie McDonald turns himself in to his cousin, Wheelock sheriff Cam McDonald, for the mercy killing of his terminally ill wife Maggie. Cam’s wife Allie, the local florist, has never gotten over the fact that Cam was the golden boy in high school – while she was a nobody – and permanently feels she is not attractive or excellent enough for him. Picoult does the courtroom examination very well, but I was most fascinated by her exploration of Allie’s low self esteem and her covetous obsession of Jamie’s like for his dead wife.

I thought this book was better than “My Sister’s Keeper.” Excellent read.

I have been a fan of Jodi’s since this first book. She writes about compelling issues that really make you debate the issue within yourself. She makes you really reflect. Well done, Jodi.
