He is everything she wants to avoid…
For two years, Catherine Inscription has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters — a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is painstakingly vexing. Cat can hardly judge that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response — and even more so when Leo proposes a treacherous liaison.
She is not at all what she seems…
Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family tree home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly ruin her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, even to a man resolved never to like again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever — unless two wary lovers can find a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires…

It’s completely unacceptable that the kindle version of this book costs more than the paperback. I don’t care how excellent the book is, I’m tired of the publishers ripping us off.

I’ve read everything Kleypas has written, and this book is the worst in a sub-par series. I couldn’t even end it.

I’ve read the positive reviews of this book and can only surmise that the reviewers were smoking crack when they wrote their opinions. I usually like Kleypas’s books. I liked Rohan and amelia, loved Win and Merripen, Harry and Poppy were okay, so I was looking forwards to Leo and Inscription’s tale, but it was dull. It ongoing out okay, and then flopped. the tale was so contrived I finished up skimming the book to get to the end. The relationship between Dodger and Inscription was more appealing. I’m glad I was able to get this book at a discount, otherwise I’d be really mad that I spent $8 on it. Just delight in the Leo/Inscription relationship in the books before and after this one. I hope the next book is much better than this one. This series really needs to go out with a bang.

Not as excellent as the first two books in this series, but better than the third. While the additional books had a bit of a twist to them, this was more of the predictable regency-style romance between the lord of the manner and the family tree governess. Lord Ramsay was still delightfully witty, but in a shorter supply and the tale itself tended to drag on too long. Also not enough time spent with the additional delightful members of the Hathaway family tree. Worth reading, but not keeping.

I was really looking forwards to Leo and Cat’s tale but this book missed the mark in a lot of places for me…
1. Another heroine with a “secret” past that’s really not so terrible yet she must flee at day break leaving just a note….same ancient same ancient.
2. Leo says he can’t like yet he is on Cat ALL THE TIME…and rather in a dull, I got tired of all the compliments way.
3. Another kidnapping plot twist which is so stupid I couldn’t judge it’s in there. And Cat’s oh so sappy “I am a woman who’s loved” line. There was a kidnapping plot in the book 3. Switch the hero & heroine and you have the same thing…with a stupid twist.
I’m really hoping Bea’s tale is much much better.
