Enter the dark, magical world of the House of Night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have permanently existed.
One minute, sixteen-year-ancient Zoey Redbird is a normal teenager dealing with everyday high school stress: her cute boyfriend Heath, the school’s star quarterback who suddenly seems more interested in partying than playing ball; her nosy frenemy Kayla, who’s way too concerned with how things are going with Heath; her uber-tough geometry test tomorrow. The next, she’s Marked as a fledgling vampyre, forcing her to place her ordinary life behind and join the House of Night, a boarding school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. That is, if she makes it through the Change—and not all of persons who are Marked do. It sucks to start a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Zoey discovers she has incredible powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint with Heath, who just doesn’t know how to take “no” for an answer. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: when she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-agreed gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a small help from her new vampyre friends.

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-ancient Zoey Redbird’s world, vampyres have permanently existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire—that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of persons who are chosen do. It’s tough to start a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-agreed gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a small help from her new vampyre friends.
“Marked is one of the best coming of age tales to come out of Oklahoma since S. E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. It teaches about the beauty of being a social outcast, friendship, and finding your own inner spirituality.”—The Beltane Papers
“From the moment I stuck my face in this book it hooked me! Really awesome new take on vampires! Marked is hot and dark and amusing. It rocks!”—Gena Showalter, leader of MTV’s Oh My Goth
“Cast reeled me in from paragraph one. I snorted and giggled through the whole thing, and devoured it in one sitting.”—MaryJanice Davidson, New York Times best-selling leader of the Undead series
“In 16-year-ancient Zoey Redbird’s world, vampyres not only exist but are also tolerated by humans. Persons whom the creatures ‘mark’ as special enter the House of Night school where they will either become vampyres themselves, or, if their body rejects the change, die. To Zoey, being marked is truly a blessing, though she’s frightened at first. She has never fit into the human world and has permanently felt she is destined for something else. Her grandmother, a successor of the Cherokee, has permanently supported her emotionally, and it is she who takes the girl to her new school. But even there the teen stands apart from the others. Her mark from the Goddess Nyx is a special one, showing that her powers are very strong for one so young. At the House of Night, Zoey finds right friendship, loyalty, and romance as well as mistrust and deception. She realizes that all is not right in the vampyre world and that the problems she thought she left behind exist there as well. Readers will identify with many of the characters, especially the protagonist. The tale moves quickly (a small too quickly at the end) and purposely leaves many unresolved issues. A excellent choice for persons libraries serving fans of the occult, but be aware that the book contains some suggestive language and sex.”—Donna Rosenblum, School Library Journal

marked,i thought was going to be a fun, cool vampire tale but it turned out to be the additional way around. theres no need to clarify whats it about since there are million of reviews adage the plot.Zoey, the main character is a shallow, selfish girl and not at all likable.the book seems to be written by a teenage girl with anti-christian issues.thats my largest concern it the book.every few chapters, they criticice chrisitian and calls us hypocrites. DO NOT LET UR CHILDREN BUY THIS BOOK and IF U R A CHRISTIAN DONT BUY THIS BOOK! i made a mistake buying it. I never give books a terrible review buy this is just unadorned terrible! Theres this horrible scene where they r building a ritual to their goddess and they pain a 5 pointed star on their forehead and start doing a sermon and drinking wine like if building fun of the church or something, this books sucks, its horrible.

I despised this book. Has EVERYTHING in it one would not expect to find in a TEEN novel. Sex, cursing and everything one would need detailed to perform a wiccan ceremony! There is NO WAY if I had a teenage daughter I’d let her read these books.

This book was dull. It had these long paragraphs that could go on for pages. I could barely even get through the novel.
It took me like 3 months to read it because I kept falling asleep.
Vampire books are my fav, my bookshelves are full of them, and this novel is not a excellent Vampire book. The plot was excellent, but she didn’t write it well, or something. It sucked.
