A ex- movie star wakes up in a mental ward where he’s been held since the night he killed his wife. He believes that he killed her, sorry to say he can’t remember what happened. And today, the ward is nearly deserted and the t.v. warns that the zombie apocalypse has arrived. It’s only natural that he doubts his own sanity. The lost memories were effective at increasing the tension.
The tale of his escape from the mental institution and his flight from the over run city are well told with plenty of action and suspense. The various characters introduced were well developed and the dialogue sounded natural. The tale has a nice momentum that holds your interest.
At least until the final act, where the villain is revealed as a poorly drawn cartoon character and the hero discovers his kind, gentle wife was a sociopath. And then there’s a final “twist” at the end that’s the definition of cliche.
If you buy this book, just stop reading when they reach the research facility and make up your own ending. It would have to be an improvement.

This was an awesome book. I couldn’t place it down. It was written like a movie, and it plays out in your head very nicely. The gore and scenery is very descriptive and you get the feeling of being there in an undead world.
It was very entertaining, but, there are a few gripes.
Some parts of the plot are easily uncovered several chapters before the characters realize them and the entire time you’re thinking “It’s this! It’s this!” until the characters finally agree with you.
Suspenseful but frustrating.
The largest problem I establish was the ending. Up to the last few pages it was an epic climax, but I establish myself asking many questions that frustrated me (probably the authors intent). I just wish it had wrapped up differently. If the leader reads this, please give us an explanation! I like asking myself these tough questions, but I delight in more having them answered.
It is still an brilliant read and sure to keep you entertained. Just buy it. The fee is fantastic and you will certainly have a fun read.
If there is a sequel I would buy it immediately.

As my review theme says, I thought the book was really well written, with some gorgeous use of descriptions. It carries you along at a excellent pace and you really get a feeling for the protagonist, with some brilliant zombie action. BUT, and this is a huge but and why I only gave it 3 stars, the ending is possibly the worst ending I have ever read, and that includes The Stand (Stephen King). It left me with such a terrible taste that I can’t really contemplate reading any sequel, for dread that such a thing would take place again. A real bring shame on since I did delight in the book up to the last chapter.

I thought this was a fantastic book that kept me engaged and turning the page. I had a hard time putting it down because I just could not wait to find out what would take place next. It was very well written and just a fantastic mystery/action book — even if you aren’t into zombie novels, you will like this one!

A gripping “Zed” tale that didn’t let me go until I turned its last page. Just like watching a Bruce Willis movie! Highly recommended to all Z-fans, I cannot wait for its sequel(s).
