I was so excited to read this book because I had heard some excellent reviews. It was appealing at first, but after the descriptions of the guys in the Brotherhood, it just seemed like a cheap version of the Dark-Hunters. I like Sherrylin Kenyon’s books so this series made me a small mad because Ward’s characters, especially Zsadist who reminded me of Zarek, were just like Kenyon’s characters. Even her website was like a rip-off. If you want to read some excellent books, check out the Dark-Hunter series.

I read the book and loved most of it but felt uncomfortable with the level of ‘torture’. Ms Ward has set up a ‘world’ where the Scribe Virgin (who incidentally is not the Mother of Jesus) demands pain when she is displeased. Not only that but the pain must be inflicted on the hero by his friends. I reflect this is a bit sick. I also agree with another reviewer who dislikes the way it magically ‘all works out’ in the end.
I predict lots more communal violence in the next book.

I was not very pleased when I recieved this book, was listed as groundbreaking new and I paid full fee for this item. Only to find that it had a HUGE crease across teh front take in, and the binding was dented and had tiny rips. If I would have bought this book used I would have understood this kind of wear. Very disappointed in this buy.

Yes, this is a worthwhile read and a excellent addition to the growing paranomal-vampire genre. But there are some serious holes in this novel. The part of the book, on reflection, shows I reflect the leader’s attempt to bring some method to her lead character’s madness but it never really works. The lead female character is so wan and insubstantial–yes, she has a mortal illness I know–that I can’t see the attraction. Her male lead is vibrant, excellent looking and she has…a nice voice?
Place this farther down your reading stack or wait for a used book.

With the first book, it became clear we were dealing with Klingons here. It made everything much simpler to know. I have permanently had a weakness for them. Vulcans are my favorite, but Klingons are right up there. I really like this new series and look forwards to more. I have pre-ordered the next. The first two I got secondhand, but judge that authors should be encouraged so will buy the rest new.
