With a pithy and matter-of-fact writing style, these guides are guaranteed to cool the nerves of first-time world travelers, while still listing off-the-beaten-path finds sure to thrill even the most jaded globetrotters. Lonely Planet has been perfecting its guidebooks for nearly 30 years and as a result, has the experience and know-how similar to an older sibling’s “been there” advice. The original backpacker’s bible, the LP series has recently widened its reach. While still giving insights for the low-budget traveler, the books now list a wide range of accommodations and itineraries for persons with less time than money.
Here is an imagination-fueling guide on how to experience the best Spain has to offer. With lively features on Spanish history; coverage of Spanish Catalan, Basque, and Galician languages; more than 145 maps, including metro maps for Madrid and Barcelona; details on outdoor activities, including national parks; chapters on Madrid and Barcelona; plus hundreds of options for food and accommodations no matter what your budget, you’ll be hard-pushed to limit your stay. –Kathryn Right

Looking for a guide by this leader, wanted to have gotten the newest edition, but I had to have it straight away to give to my daughter who was leaving for Spain. She liked it!

Spain is an brilliant travel document that will allow the reader to know a fantastic deal about the country. More than just a listing of the excellent hotels or restaurants, a thorough review of the information provided will allow a reader to know why to go to Spain as a replacement for of just where. It’s worth the money, even if you’re only interested in Spain.

I know it’s my personal bug-bear, but as with most guidebooks on Spain the Murcia region isn’t agreed the same treatment as additional regions – just 10 pages (that wrongly suggest that all we’ve got there is beaches and golf courses) to take in the whole region while Valencia gets 50! That said, I like the Lonely Planet guides, they are perfectly produced and the colour photos are permanently outstanding.
