Product Description
The actor Michael Tucker and his wife, the actress Jill Eikenberry, having sent their last child off to college, were vacationing in Italy when they happened upon a tiny cottage nestled in the Umbrian countryside. The three-hundred-and-fifty-year-ancient Rustico sat perched on a hill in the verdant Spoleto valley amid an lime orchard and fruit trees of every kind. For the Tuckers, it was factually like at first sight, and the couple bought the house lacking hard the water pressure or checking for signs of termites. Shedding the vestiges of their American life, Michael and Jill endeavored to learn the language, know the nuances of Italian culture, and erect a home in this new chapter of their lives. Both a celebration of a excellent marriage and a careful study of the scenery of home, Living in a Foreign Language is a gorgeous, organic travelogue written with an epicurean’s delight in detail and a gourmand’s appreciation for all things fine.

I highly recommend this book. If you like travel tales that are well-written and amusing, this is it. Mr. Tucker has written a charming tale of the excellent life and a wonderful marriage. Makes me want to book my ticket to Italy sooner rather than later. Well done, Mr. Tucker, you have a real talent for the written word.

This is a sleeper. Once you start you cann’t place it down. You are taking on an adventure and you feel part of it. You learn about a right like tale and buying a place in Italy and getting to know the locals. The place, food, wine and how about the 400 year ancient pizza oven. Wonderful..couldn’t place it down. At the end you marvel could they let you rent this place?

Michael Tucker is a very excellent tale teller and I really loved this book. Very amusing, and very simple to read. One of the better books I’ve read about living in Italy. You’ll like it!

This book is very charming. Michael Tucker is able to effectively capture the essense of Umbria and its people. It’s hard not to fall in like with the new life that he has made for himself and his wife, Jill. Also, throughout the book, there are photos. The book flows smoothly like a excellent glass of wine and it leaves the reader wanting more.

A wonderfully written, fun and compelling homage to Michael Tucker’s wife (Jill Eikenberry) and their village and expatriate friends in Italy. I thought that I’d read all of the really excellent — and many truly horrible — descriptions of living abroad so I was reasonably surprised to find that I couldn’t place this glorious one down. Sit back with a glass of wine (or two or more) and let his narrative whisk you away to one of the loveliest (and obviously most liveable) spots on planet. Watch out Peter Mayle — an actor is quickly gaining on you!
