I am sorry to say that I never received the Amazon ordered book. In spite of repeated emails and several efforts to contact the seller, I never received an answer, I received the bill that I refused to pay to the credit card company giving my reasons.
Thank you

I have not read the whole book, early on the leader boldly proclaims “there is no such thing as a gluten allergy.” I was recently diagnosed with full blown IgE ALLERGY to gluten (as well as IgE to wheat, rye, oats, and barley). Coming across Danna Korn’s incorrect information right at the beginning of the book really turned me off…how much of the rest of the book is inaccurate? I just couldn’t get past it, and am returning the book to Amazon immediately as “performing not more than expectations.” I should have noticed that Ms. Korn was not an MD, esp. not an allergist, but also it appears that her medical consultants were celiac specialist, not allergists either. From where does her allergy information come? She also states that the spectrum of severity runs all the way from allergic responses (she presents them as least vital or severe) to sensitivity (which she places in the middle of the spectrum) to celiac (the most severe — it is!). My allergists have placed sensitivity not more than allergy, and they are MDs. My allergic symptoms are VERY severe. Because of such a sweeping aver about IgE allergies that is utterly fake being included in a book that I thought was recommended reading, I will never buy another one of the “Dummies” series, either. I’m sure she knows a fantastic deal about celiac, but then the book should be called “Celiac Disease for Dummies,” not “Gluten-Free for Dummies.” I am glad Amazon permits return of books that are unsatisfactory, I am a bit annoyed that I have to pay the shipping to send it back.

I was diagnosed with coeliac/celiac (spelling depends on which side of the Atlantic you are on) as an infant. Inadvertantly (on reflection) agreed the green light to eat gluten when I was 12 and then back to full-blown Coeliac/Celiac 20yrs later. Growing up in Europe it was much simpler to live gluten-free. But, I bought this book to help make the adjustment to living gluten-free in the US. This book just broke my heart in terms of an overzealous mother who I was relying on to help and this book failed in so many ways. Knowing the way of gluten-free, I really felt this book misguided at best. Please find another way than buy this book.
A small trick, internet searches using the European spelling “COELIAC” will guide you to sites, agencies etc that have more information. The US is a fantastic place but behind the 8-ball on Celiac and this leader, epitomizes such.

When I establish out I had Celiac Disease, this was the first book I came across and I just wasn’t impressed. The Cheat Sheet in front of the book was the most helpful and I still have to check out some of the recipies. But all in all, I didn’t get much out of it.

I was looking for a book that would gently walk me through the process of avoiding gluten in foods for my daughter. I’m sure this book has that information, but I establish myself insulted within the first few chapters as a ‘glutenavore’ who ate ‘contaminated’ foods, and was by defaulting unhealthy. If you’re looking for help, and not a address on the Evils of the Gluten Eaters Lifestyle, this is not the book for you.
